  • Acer is planning on launching an Android smartphone this year, aside from 10 Windows Mobile handsets scheduled for release in the following months. The world’s third largest computer maker didn’t make a specific announcement concerning the new device, but what we do know is that it’ll hit the market in 2009.

Back in February, Acer revealed its first 4 smartphones, based on Windows Mobile and using the ETEN experience, a company which they bought last year. Recently, the Taiwanese PC/phone maker’s officials stated that Acer wants to become one of the top 5 handset vendors in the world by 2012.

In order to achieve this top spot, the company should sell about 20 to 25 million devices per year, according to a market analysis. What do you say, is this a realistic goal?
