Since Lenovo and Toshiba Fujitsu have WP7 device, why shouldn’t Acer get a piece of the action? That’s what they did, by announcing the Allegro WP7 Mango device for the French market. This is their first attempt at a WP device, so we’ll have to give them credit for the first try.

The result is a seemingly cheap device, that looks affordable and mediocre in specs. We’re dealing with a Mango handset that has a quite unique feature: very fast charging. This model uses the Fast Charge technology to charge its 1300 mAh power source to the highest level 2.5 times faster than any other rival tablet or smartphone.

I must also mention that the specs of this unit are predictable: 3.6 inch WVGA display, Qualcomm 1GHz processor, 8GB of memory and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. There’s also Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, a bunch of sensors and a case that measures 13mm in thickness. Acer Allegro weighs 126 grams and it’s scheduled for debut in mid-November in France with a price tag of 299 euros.

Remember the Acer W4 handset? This Windows Phone unit was spotted a bunch of times during Microsoft presentations and now it’s back with an official name: Allegro. Acer Allegro will be launched in Europe around Christmas time and it will be priced at 299 euro.

This price tag is pretty good, especially considering this is a Mango OS handset, but the specs are pretty dated, if you ask me. They’re basic enough to run WP7.5 and include a 3.6 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and HSPA + quad band connectivity.

The brain of the smartphone is a Qualcomm MSM8255 1GHz processor, the same one used on the Xperia Play and the features list also includes WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, DLNA and 8GB of storage. Now let’s see what Nokia can pit against this appealing model, both price wise and specs wise.

Since HTC unveiled last week two new Windows Phone Mango devices, Acer did a similar thing at IFA 2011, showcasing the Acer W4 Mango phone we’ve already heard about. Seen as mockups and concepts for a while now, the device looks good in real life and it’s probably the most compact Windows Phone unit to date.

With a display that sports a 3.6 inch diagonal and 480 x 800 pixel resolution, this model doesn’t feature some incredible specs, so it will probably be in the lower range of WP7 units. This handset comes with a 1GHz CPU, an unknown megapixel camera, 8GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM. I guess that somehow this smartphone will compete with Nokia’s Mango units, that will have similar specifications and most likely reasonable prices.

As far as design goes, the Acer W4 is classic for a WP7 unit: glossy, black and elegant case. Supposedly, the phone will hit the market next month, according to Acer’s statement at IFA 2011. Is this an indication as to when Mango OS will be available to the general public?

And we thought that the HTC Eternity was huge, with its 4.7 inch display… wait till you see the Acer Iconia Smart, a 4.8 inch smartphone coming to Germany in September with a 499 euro price tag. This model was first spotted back at Mobile World Congress in February, but no launch date was given then.

This time, we have the official Acer Germany Facebook account providing info on the debut of the handset. We must also mention that the screen on this handset is an ultra wide one, with 19:9 aspect and 1024 x 480 pixel resolution. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the OS of choice, while a Snapdragon CPU takes care of all the processes on the device.

There’s also an 8 megapixel camera on board, in case you want photo capture. Expect this model to also debt in the UK via Expansys soon enough, with the retailer already offering the smartphone for pre-order, but without a price and launch date.

We are dealing with a 3.6 inch smartphone, supporting a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and packing a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, plus 8GB of storage and a 5MP autofocus camera. DLNA, WiFi, Bluetooth and HSPA also complete the specs list. The handset looks thin and we have to say that its curved back looks nice and according to Engadget, it also feels nice.

The design looks a bit like a combo between the front side of Dell Venue Pro and Samsung Omnia 7. Now let’s get a price and a launch date for this model and we’re all set.

Thanks to Spanish retailer ThePhoneHouse, we now have a pretty good picture of the offers associated to the latest tablets in Europe. Motorola Xoom is priced at 699 euros, in the 3G version, while the 3D LG Optimus Pad slate will cost a bit more, 849 euros. However, for this price you get 3D screen visualization and 3D capture with the aid of the back cameras.

Moving on to the lower price segment, ThePhoneHouse also lists the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, going for 399 EUR and the Acer Iconia Tab A100, priced at 349 EUR. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is lacking from the list sadly, but we’re sure that it’s been priced competitively in order to rival the Xoom and Optimus Pad.

Rumors also surfaced concerning the HP Opal slate (possibly the TouchPad), that is supposed to reach Europe on July 1st, if speculations are correct. Which one of these will you be buying? Or do you want to wait for the iPad 2?

Acer has been working hard on a new handset, the beTouch E210 model, that’s supposed to be both entry level and business-oriented. This handset comes with a front portrait QWERTY keyboard and it was recently spotted over at the FCC, that also provided the features of the handset.

This candybar phone is very much like a BlackBerry replacement, possibly cheaper and with more mediocre specs. Here’s the feature list:

Display: 2.6 inch, QVGA TFT, resistive touchscreen, 320 x 240

CPU: 600MHz, Qualcomm MSM7227

Memory: 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM

Camera: 3MP

Both run Android 2.2 Froyo and should come with reasonable price tags in March or April, when they’ll hit the UK shops.

Acer Liquid Mini is very much like the Liquid model, albeit a tad tinier (screen diagonal and resolution), thus justifying the “mini” name pattern. Here’s the specs list for this device:

Display: 3.2 inch touchscreen, 480 x 320 pixels

CPU: Qualcomm 7227, 600MHz

Camera: 5MP

Connectivity: 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS

Acer beTouch E210 is even smaller, but it brings a front QWERTY keyboard and the following features:

Display: 2.6 inch touchscreen

CPU: 416MHz

Memory: 256MB RAM

Camera: 3.2MP

Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS

No info on pricing or release date for North America.

Now let’s see what Acer has readied for CES 2011, specially in the tablet segment.

AT&T and T-Mobile are looking into the potential release of the Acer Liquid Metal Android 2.2 smartphone in the States, according to an official of the handset’s maker. Rogers is already prepared to launch the device in Canada, while Liquid Metal was also announced for the UK and already reached shops in France.

This is a GSM phone with appealing specs that are listed below and we know that it could be available in silver and brown. The device comes with a stainless steel battery cover and support for connectivity with a PC or game console via DLNA/UPnP. Here’s the specs list:

CPU: 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon

Display: 3.6 inch, WVGA touchscreen, 800 x 480 pixels

Camera: 5MP

Connectivity: Bluetooth, WiFi b/g/n, 3G

Acer Liquid Metal adopts Breeze UI together with Android 2.2, allowing users to manage apps more easily. Info is visible even when the screen is locked and there’s also a Social Jogger app on board that aggregates social networking feeds, allowing you to surf through them via trackwheel. Acer has been announcing a lot of tablets and smartphones lately, so 2011 will be very busy for them, especially if they join the Windows Phone 7 partner bunch.
