The eternal inside source Eldar Murtazin now has the scoop on the new ASUS Eee Pad Transformer tablet, that will apparently be the only quad core slate this year, with an avalanche of such products coming in 2012. Eldar is claiming that the Eee Pad Transformer 2, also known as the Eee Pad Prime will be the first and only Tegra 3 model in the following two months.

Last I heard this model was scheduled for a Fall unveiling, but problems with the Tegra 3 CPU created a small delay. Eldar is also sure that 2012 will be all about quad core, although not so much Nvidia, but more Texas Instruments solutions. LG, Motorola and Samsung are most likely cooking up their own quad core products right about now.

ASUS has the upper hand here, since they’ll be the first to increase the number of cores inside the CPU of a tablet, but that comes with a price: the risk of having bugs and all sorts of problems, like pioneers always do. The good thing is that Tegra 3 will supposedly offer great battery life, so the new Transformer might actually be a good product, like the first.

It’s been all over the web the fact that Samsung and Google have cancelled their Nexus Prime + Ice Cream Sandwich event in order to pay a tribute to Steve Jobs. Meanwhile, the GSM flavor of the handset has reached the FCC and passed it, most likely heading to AT&T.

This version comes with HSPA-based 3G radio and sadly there’s no trace of LTE here, although we sure hoped it will be. Of course, the “4G” naming is expected on some carriers, although it will most likely be associated to HSPA+, as usual in the States. Verizon Wireless might still get a LTE version of the Android 4.0 smartphone, but I wouldn’t vouch for that.

However, what more do you need when you have 21Mbps speeds on your handset? Nexus Prime is pretty much a clear affair now: big display (4.65 inches), 5 megapixel camera, 16 GB of storage, dual core 1.2 or 1.5GHz CPU and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. We’ve seen live photos and videos, learned the specs, it’s like it’s part of our family, this device. And now let’s see it officially launched!

Courtesy of Pocketnow, we’ve come across some very interesting pics of the ASUS PadFone, that was teased over the past weeks. This hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet looks pretty hot and we wonder what OS is on board, although Android Ice Cream Sandwich is a pretty good guess.

The handset is integrated into the slate using a lid, that covers it. However, the phone is not covered completely, as the camera gets a special hole through which it will take pictures. ASUS PadFone is supposed to come in copper and black, packing dual speakers and unknown specifications for now.

The hybrid recently appeared on the web as a patent by ASUS and we’re expecting it live in action at Computex 2011. We wonder if the processor inside the phone also powers the slate or if they have separate CPUs. I guess we’ll find that out tomorrow.

Ahead of Computex 2011, ASUS teased us with the picture below, making us wonder if their new device will be a tablet or a phone. Well, the newcomer could be the both and Notebook Italia wasn’t shy to try its hand with a mockup, as shown at the end of the article.

We could be dealing with a tablet that sports a slot in which you can insert a handset. How cool would that be? Another option would be launching a notebook that uses a smartphone as the processor, that powers the entire unit. We already have the Eee Pad Transformer as the tablet with a detachable keyboard, so why not explore in this direction?

Android is most likely the OS of choice and it will be interesting to see how they combine Honeycomb and Gingerbread into his hybrid unit. Monday is the day to look out for and Notebook Italia is the author of these mockups:

Thanks to Spanish retailer ThePhoneHouse, we now have a pretty good picture of the offers associated to the latest tablets in Europe. Motorola Xoom is priced at 699 euros, in the 3G version, while the 3D LG Optimus Pad slate will cost a bit more, 849 euros. However, for this price you get 3D screen visualization and 3D capture with the aid of the back cameras.

Moving on to the lower price segment, ThePhoneHouse also lists the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, going for 399 EUR and the Acer Iconia Tab A100, priced at 349 EUR. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is lacking from the list sadly, but we’re sure that it’s been priced competitively in order to rival the Xoom and Optimus Pad.

Rumors also surfaced concerning the HP Opal slate (possibly the TouchPad), that is supposed to reach Europe on July 1st, if speculations are correct. Which one of these will you be buying? Or do you want to wait for the iPad 2?

ASUS recently detailed its future list of products in front of reporters present at CeBIT 2011, that took place this week in Germany. It was CEO jerry Shen who spoke to the press, detailing the company’s plans for the future. These include quad core processors, 3D displays, both on tablets and even a Windows Phone smartphone.

The latter will be launched next year if everything goes well, although ASUS could be late to this party, with most other phone makers already pushing WP7 devices. Even Nokia will get a piece of the Microsoft pie by then, but at least ASUS has Android and MeeGo netbooks to fall back on. We’ve seen plenty images and heard speculations of an ASUS WP7 smartphone before, so what about a real launch this time, not only promises?

Guess what’s leaked? A new Windows Phone 7 device, one made by Asus and dubbed the E600. This WP7 device packs a 4 inch touchscreen and uses physical buttons under the screen, unlike HTC HD7 and its touch keys. Here’s the fresh leak:

This handset might arrive at MWC 2011 or maybe earlier, but it’s all up to Asus at this point. We’re dealing with a smartphone that sports an aluminum front and plastic back, a 5MP camera with LED flash, a 1300mAh battery and Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE connectivity. The screen is capable of a 480 x 800 pixel resolution and it’s a TFT display we’re talking about.

It’s raining tablets these days, with CES 2011 just hours away from kick-off and ASUS is not the brand to stay away from the hype. They’ve just announced an Android 3.0 slate dubbed Eee Pad MeMO, that you can see for yourselves after the break. This device reminds us a bit of Microsoft Courier, a slate project that was canned a while ago.

ASUS Eee Pad MeMO comes with a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm 8260 CPU, dual cameras, a Stereo Bluetooth accessory for phone calls and a stylus. There’s a 1.2MP cam upfront and a 5MP camera at the rear of the MeMO complete with LED flash. The stylus we mentioned is a capacitive one, ideal for note taking (together with the app Media Note) and drawing (working together with the app Painter).

The stereo Bluetooth headset bundled with the tablet is called MeMic and it turns the device into a smartphone of sorts, due to its phone-like experience. Pricing is $499 and debut is scheduled for June.

Asus is getting ready to join the Windows Phone 7 rush through the E600 handset that was spotted at the FCC not so long ago. The smartphone looks pretty nifty and it’s most likely going to be AT&T material, since it works in the 850/1900 MHz bands, as confirmed by the FCC submission from a while ago, when the device was still called Garmin-Asus E600.

According to early measurements, this smartphone features a 4 inch display and we learn that there’s a 5MP camera on board with an LED flash and a 1300mAh battery. The case seems to feature brushed metal parts and we’re dealing with a pretty thin device, but not as thin as Samsung Focus. Other things you can notice in the FCC pics are the volume rocker, camera key, microUSB port and the lock/power key and 3.5mm audio jack.

Strangely enough, the charger and headphones still bear the Garmin-Asus branding and as a bonus we found out that the phone will come with DLNA streaming apps. The video below shows the E600 in action and this is a pretty old clip, back in the days when WP7 was in the testing phase:
