Acer Launches/Announces New Handsets During Official Event in Singapore

Just a couple of days ago, Acer held the Smart Handheld Launch Event at the Singapore Hotel Intercontinental, showing the world its premium handsets and revealing future plans for 2009. The event hosted Mr. Roger Yuen (VP of Asia Pacific), who talked about Acer’s direction and future devices.

Mr. Yuen claims that no more ETEN products will be made (Acer bought ETEN last year) and the new handsets will be designed in France, Paris. Afterwards, the official showed 5 Acer phones, among which there were DX900, a dual SIM device going for S$799, Acer DX650, a handset that features a touchscreen on one side and a finger-friendly keypad on the other and will sell for S$599.

Also included in the presentation were Acer X960 (S$699), Acer F900 (with keyboard) and Acer M900, packing an embedded biometric fingerprint sensor. During the event, Acer’s officials also demoed the new UI, Acer New Shell 2.0 and announced 3 upcoming 2009 handset, the F1, L1 and C1 MID. The UI is now available on the M900 and F900, while the rest of the handsets are using SPB Shell.

Acer DX900 Smartphone Now Available for Pre-Order; Rebranded E-Ten Glofiish DX900

Just a week ago we announced that Acer is going to launch a hot smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2009 and we speculated that it was going to be a rebranded E-Ten device, the V900.

Turns out we were half right, but the rebranded handset is E-Ten Glofiish DX900, which is now available through UK retailer Clove Technology.

Acer DX900 keeps each and every feature from its former self, like the dual SIM capability, GPS, WiFi support, 3 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1 and 2.8 inches VGA touchscreen.

DX900 also got some color tweaks and in case you’re not familiar with the situation, know that Acer bought E-Ten in 2008 and plans to use their expertise in the smartphone biz to enter the market and compete with the likes of HTC and soon Dell and i-mate.

Looking forward to seeing Acer DX900 in action at Mobile World Congress 2009, although we know what it’s capable of…

E-Ten Glofiish V900 Gets Reviewed

Mobilissimo showed the world what the latest E-Ten Glofiish device can do through their latest review, which you can check out below. The hands on experience was neat and we envy the guys, despite de fact that they couldn’t test the TV features of the handset. Be cautious, as the review is in Romanian, but the language of hands on action is universal:

You’ll learn right from the start that the device comes with a very solid audio system, a great rival even for the sound system of your car. Also, the specs list of Glofiish V900 is quite reasonable, as it comes with a touchscreen TFT display (2.8 inches), GSM and HSDPA support, handwriting recognition and 256 MB Flash ROM.

Other than that, the V900 will be powered by a Samsung S3C6400 533 MHz CPU and it’ll support WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and run Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

Glofiish DX900 Brings Dual-SIM to Russia for $742

Talk about phones that hit the market late… E-Ten Glofiish DX900 was announced in June, at Computex and it has hit the Russian market just now, bringing its dual SIM hotness to the stores. This handset stands for a premiere: the first dual SIM Windows Mobile smartphone with a VGA screen. Confused? Don’t be, as the device is quite hot, but a tad expensive, at $742.

Its specs list includes 3G support (HSDPA), GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3 megapixel camera and a front camera for video calls. No info when Glofiish DX900 will make it outside Russia, but we do know that it’s available for pre-ordering at Expansys.

Romanian site Mobilissimo got a fresh batch of pics showing the latest E-Ten Glofiish device, the V900 in action. We’re talking touchscreen, TV tuner and TV-out, but you might have seen the unboxing experience of the V900 we showed you a while back.

Well, the first hands on video was “made in France” and now the handset lands in Romania, how long will it tour the globe before reaching the US shores?

Glofiish V900 Unboxed and Connected to a Big Screen TV

E-TEN’s latest device is a touchscreen one, but what a beauty it is! Mobifrance got its hands on the Glofiish V900 early and unboxed it, for us all to see. Here’s the video of the unboxing experience:

The V900 is a Windows Mobile handset, that incorporates a DVB-T TV tuner, which allows the user to watch free TV. Plus, the phone’s specs list includes a 667 MHz processor, 128MB of internal memory, 3G+ connectivity and a GPS chip. Once we connect the handset to a big screen TV and watch Wall-E in full screen mode, who cares about the rest of the features (WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.2 megapixel camera)?

V900 will hit the market this month at about 600 euros.

Eten Glofiish X610, Under the Spotlight

Eten Glofiish X610 has just gone through a serious review from Mobifrance at the last Computex show in Taiwan. The device runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, but has a user interface very much similar to the TouchFLO used on HTC, which can be only seen as a good thing. Same face, different name, as X610’s interface is called SPB Shell.

We have WiFi, Bluetooth, EDGE and, above all this, GPS receiver compatible with AGPS. With such capabilities, Eten Glofiish X610 acts like a perfect companion. It comes equipped with Outlook and with all connectivity solutions for business men on the run.

The reviewers found excellent connectivity on the device and gave a definite “thumbs up” for its responsiveness. It’s a promising start for Eten Glofiish X610, as it looks well enough equipped to meet even the highest handheld demands.
