T-Mobile recently announced that the Android-based Garminfone will be available starting June 9 for around $200, after a $50 mail-in rebate and bundled with a 2 year contract. Of course, this is a GPS-based handset, with very cool and extended navigation features.

The device comes with a car dock, turn-by-turn audible directions (including real time weather and traffic info), plus pre-loaded maps on the device, so in case of lack of connectivity, you’re still going the right way. This Android newcomer features a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display, a 3 megapixel camera, WiFi, 3G connectivity, a microSD card slot and 4GB of internal memory.

2GB of these will be occupied by Garmin’s GPS maps and we have to mention that Garminphone runs Android 1.6, customized with an unique UI. The handset also supports multitouch in the gallery and Micrososft Exchange accounts. What’s strange about this phone is that it lacks a headphone jack or any kind…

Now, let’s have a look at the Garminphone in action:

The lucky folks of Engadget Mobile managed to score a Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 unit and reviewed it, for us all to find out about its cool features. This is probably one of the most delayed handsets in history, since it took almost two months between its introduction and sale.

Now, it turns out that nuvifone G60 will be sold by AT&T before the holiday season, for $299 with a contract, a pretty unappealing price tag, if you ask me. Back to the review, Garmin-Asus created a pretty decent GPS phone, that’s both light and compact, fitting the dashboard of your car perfectly. The device also packs a camera and rear speaker, with great placement and there’s also an easy to find volume rocker on board.

A standard USB port is used and there’s 2.5mm headphone jack, if you’re looking for flaws. An advantage of this unit is that the rear speaker is really, really loud, a very cool feat for a GPS phone, specially if you’re using turn-by-turn directions. Nuvifone G60′s resistive WQVGA display performs pretty well and reacts well to finger presses.

Garmin’s navigation suite completes the package, with a beautiful UI, an email app, a basic dialler screen, contact list and recent calls tab. If you want more details, here’s the full review of the device.

Phone Arena recently reviewed Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20, a GPS phone that can be used on AT&T and T-Mobile USA, without 3G support. This is still a global GSM phone, that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, unlike the G60 model that relies on a Linux-based OS.

In the handset’s box there’s an extra battery, a stereo headset with microphone, a spare stylus, car charger and stand, a wall charger, case, duster and software CDs. Moving on to the design, we discover that the M20 is a compact device, easy to use with a single hand, specially because it’s a pretty small phone.

The display is a 2.8 inches screen, with a VGA native resolution and great sensitivity that will aid the stylus interaction. Too bad that there’s no light sensor on board, so you’ll have to face sunlight issues when using the phone outdoors. nuvifone M20′s interface resembles Acer Shell, but it’s not as visually appealing as that, although we really like the cool screen unlocking puzzle-like mechanism.

The search function allows the user to access navigational features and contacts, while the Home screen features all the shortcuts you need to get around quickly. Opera Mobile is also on board, doing a much better job than Internet Explorer, but still it’s not as good as Safari Mobile, just yet. Moving on the essential part of the phone, the GPS, Phone Arena finds it incredibly slow and requiring many minutes to prepare for navigation.

Find out if the entire device is a letdown or not by reading the full review here.

For those who still choose a Garmin-Asus device, it’s important to note that nuvifone G60 was announced back in February and that it comes with a TFT resistive touchscreen, with a 3.55 inch diagonal and 272 x 480 pixels resolution, a 2.5mm audio jack, 4GB of storage space and 128MB RAM.

There’s also a microSD card slot on board with support for up to 16GB extra storage, plus GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP on the specs list. A 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus can be found at the back of the device and its OS of choice is Linux. Moving into the Windows Mobile segment, we discover Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20, packing a 2.8 inch TFT resistive touchscreen, with a 480 x 640 pixels resolution and an accelerometer.

nuvifone M20 features 4GB/8GB of internal memory, 7.2 Mbps support, a 3.15 megapixel autofocus camera with support for video recording, a Qualcomm MSM7200A 528 MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
