HTC Android Phones Accounting for 50% of the Company’s Devices by 2010?
The latest rumours concerning famous Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC are surely bad news for Microsoft, since the company seems to be planning a shift towards the Android OS. It turns out that in 2010, half of the HTC’s devices will be running Android, impossible as it may seem now.
Right now, HTC lists 28 handsets on its European website and only 2 of those are Android-based, the rest relying on Microsoft’s WM OS. DigiTimes’ sources say that the manufacturer is trying to upgrade the figures to 30% for the 2009 handsets, meaning that 15 or even 20 handsets running Google’s OS will be launched this year.
The same mystery sources claim that we’ll see a high end 3G phone and entry level model packing a touchscreen and TouchFLO 3D or the Sense UI, also this year. Reports also mention the fact that HTC will start using Qualcomm’s BREW mobile platform that will be launched this Fall, allowing them to customize the upcoming handsets even more…
This info is all speculation material, so don’t count Microsoft out of the HTC partnership for the future just yet…
