HTC Touch Pro2 Versus Nokia N97: The Slide and Tilt War

It’s time for the battle of the giants: Nokia’s most awaited touchscreen smartphone, the N97 versus HTC Touch Pro2, one of the most promising devices of the Taiwanese manufacturer. It’s a sliding and tilting screen war, as the folks of pocketnow have a look at the devices’ design, app compatibility, screen resolution, connectivity, price and keyboard.

As far as design is concerned, we learn that both handsets come with great form factors, thanks to the tilt and slide screen. HTC Touch Pro2 uses a tilting mechanism made famous by the QVGA TyTN II, while Nokia N97 uses too many plastic components and its hinges seem weak, although the design might be pretty solid in the end. Time will tell, but for now, Touch Pro2 wins this duel.

The smartphones are equal when it comes to app compatibility, as Nokia experiments with various solutions, inputs, resolutions and formats, but also apps and technologies. Windows Mobile (6.5 soon) is handled perfectly on HTC Touch Pro2, plus, we find out that the device will get widget support at some point, for some extra kick.

HTC Touch Pro2 triumphs in yet another section, the screen resolution, supporting 800 x 480 pixels on a 3.6 inch display, while the N97 only supports 640 x 360 on a 3.5 inch touchscreen. The Pro2 is also better priced and comes with a much more usable QWERTY keyboard. In the end, the HTC device is the winner, so Nokia can keep on trying and maybe the N98 will bring them the long awaited success, or maybe the Nokia 5900 XpressMusic?
