Hyundai MB-490i is a very unusual handset, when it comes to design, looking just like a dolphin, as you can see for yourself in the images below.

We have our doubts regarding the best handset shown at MWC 2009, but at least we know what the worst phones are. They’re branded Hyundai and the one you can see in the image below, MB400 looks like a cheap iPod knock-off.

It plays music, calls and features a minuscule touchscreen, operated via stylus. Yuck!

Wait, there’s more ugliness to be seen! There’s grandpa’s watch below, the Hyundai MB-910 touchscreen watch phone and the MB-105 Chico phone next to it. The latter would make a calculator jealous with its minimalistic design and my God, does it have specs! MB105 can store no less than 50 text messages. Wow! Definitely a hit!

Hyundai plans to increase its popularity in the UK, by announcing the launch of 10-15 mobile devices this year. Following the company’s success in Hungary, Slovenia and Germany, Hyundai Mobile UK plans to reach a market share of 3-5% in the next 5 years.

Hyundai handsets will use the great image of the brand, one of the 5 greatest car manufacturers in the world. Also, the company is number 72 globally, as far as brand value goes, according to Norbert Winkler, Hyundai Mobile Europe CEO.

The UK branch officials claim that the company will focus in innovations and niche products in order to conquer the market. Among the phones launched in 2009 we’ll see Windows Mobile business handsets, that’ll reach the market in the first half of this year.
