  • The iPhone seems to be the new Xbox 360, as far as overheating issues, explosions and fires are concerned, specially since there are quite a bunch of reports coming from France, regarding this matter. European iPhone users (specially 3GS ones) seemed to be plagued by overheating issues, so much that French authorities have stepped in and announced an investigation of these issues. Meanwhile, we learn that a teen in Belgium witnessed the implosion of his iPhone, while a woman’s handset cracked suddenly and 10 French “victims” had similar complaints.

This isn’t the first time that Apple is facing such issues, if you only remember the first gen iPod nano recall in Korea, preceded by an impressive number of reports concerning faulty batteries. However, this time we’re dealing with tens of millions of iPhones, so things are a bit tougher, specially since Apple is getting ready to enter the Chinese market and offer the device to its hundreds of millions customers…

As an answer to the French authorities’ concerns over the iPhone overheating, Apple replied that the incidents are isolated ones and they’re usually to blame on the “external force” applied to the screen. For now, it’s too early to tell if the issues are serious, but time will give it out..
