Unreal Engine 3 Running on the iPhone; Cool Games Coming!
December 23rd, 2009 | by ThryStan |
The iPhone is already a very fearsome rival for the PSP and Nintendo DS, considering the love it gets from both gamers and game developers these days. Now, it turns out that Epic Games has ported the Unreal Engine 3 on the handset, the same engine that powers superb titles like BioShock, Gears of War 2 and Mirror’s Edge.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect the desktop version of the engine to hit the tiny iPhone screen, but rather a port with downsampled textures and toned down lighting, shading and effects. The platform was tested by Anand from Anandtech and, as you can see in the video below, he had quite a ball, playing everyone’s favorite FPS.
Epic has no plans regarding the iPhone just yet, but they plan on licensing the engine soon enough, hopefully for a decent price. They announced that Unreal Engine 3 will also make it to another mobile platform, that will be shown at CES 2010. Android maybe?
