Lenovo and Intel just unveiled the first Intel CPU smartphone at CES 2012, the Lenovo K800 handset, that’s shown below. We’re dealing here with a phone that will hit China Unicom in Q2, packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the OS of choice. Lenovo K800 also features a 4.5 inch 720p display and rear camera with dual LED flash.

You must also know that Intel announced its partnership with Motorola and Lenovo to deliver smartphones and tablets based on Intel CPU this year. The Lenovo K800 features an Intel Atom Z2640 processor with 1.6GHz frequency, plus a 4.5 inch TFT display I mentioned before and an 8 megapixel camera at the back. Another interesting feat is the support for Intel’s Wi-Di technology, that allows phone users to connect via wireless to external displays.

These screens will show the same content as the one on the handset’s screen. Excited about this new product and the new direction that Intel has taken recently (smartphones/tablets)? Think they’ll make it?

Lenovo has had a busy week unveiling, a 5 inch tabletphone, two other new tablets and a new smartphone. They also have big plans for the future, that include a Windows Phone device in 2012, according to the LePhone series product manager.

Last month there was a teaser of the LePhone S2 running Windows Phone unofficially, but that’s not the product we’re waiting for. Lenovo doesn’t yet ring a bell when it comes to smartphones, since they’ve only moved 700k phone units since the first LePhone took off in May last year, but that might chance. Product manager Chen Yue is the one confirming the cooperation with Microsoft and the debut of a Windows Phone unit in the second half of next year.

The launch time frame possibly makes the upcoming handset a Windows Phone Tango or even Apollo unit, if it gets delayed. By that time everyone in China will either own or want a Nokia Lumia 800, so Lenovo will be in for a tough competition. At least they’re a national brand and people hold on that, increasing sales… I think.

Lenovo has had an important day today, announcing three new interesting products: the LePad S2005 tabletphone and the S2007 and S2010 tablets. The latter will come to China in December and they’ll be packing dual core 1.5GHz processors, 1GB of RAM and 7, 10 inch displays respectively.

What interests me the most is the LePad S2005, a supposed Galaxy Note rival, due to the 5 inch screen diagonal, with a pretty poor 800 x 480 pixel resolution. This model is the same type of hybrid as the Galaxy Note or the Dell Streak and it runs Android 2.3.5, relying on a 1.2GHz dual core processor, with 1GB of RAM, a HDMI port, a 5MP camera and a 1.3MP one upfront.

The whole thing measures 9.95mm in thickness, weighs 198 grams and it will get the IdeaTab branding outside of China. As far as the other tablets go, the 10 incher S2010 weighs 670 grams and measures 9.9mmm in waistline, while the 7 incher S2007 weighs 360 grams and measures 9.7mm around the waist. In the meantime, I’d like to remind you that Lenovo is apparently working on a Tegra 3 tablet as well, the IdeaTab K2, that was leaked earlier this month.

Since Fujitsu Toshiba and Acer already have their own Windows Phone units, why wouldn’t Lenovo follow the same route? Thus, it doesn’t surprise me that they did and created the Lenovo S2 Windows Phone device. This model is coming to China as soon as possible, according to people close to the matter.

Last I heard, Lenovo wasn’t part of the Windows Phone deal with Microsoft, but they must’ve reached some sort of agreement in the end. Supposedly, the S2 is only one of the two WP7 devices coming from Lenovo. The specs are a mystery and as far as design goes, the handset looks very much like Samsung Focus, so it’s not very original.

A Lenovo smartphone with WP7 was rumored back in December 2010, especially for the Chinese market. The specs I’m expecting here include a 1GHz CPU, maybe 4GB of storage to keep the price low and a 3.8 – 4+ inch display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. As you can see there’s also a front camera included, so maybe this is not a low cost model after all. Keep in mind that this is a mere rumor, so don’t take it for granted…

One of them is MediaTek, a company that supplies chipsets to Shanzhai phone makers. Among the new models with such CPUs there’s the Lenovo A60 smartphone.

This device packs a MTK6573 chip, runs Android 2.3 and features a 3.5 inch capacitive screen. Measuring 13.2mm in thickness, the phone supports GSM and 3G WCDMA networks and will come to China Unicom’s portofolio quite soon. The A60 weighs 135 grams and its CPU has a 650 MHz frequency and the specs list includes 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM.

Other features include WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, a gravity sensor and FM radio. The price for this smartphone is incredibly affordable, at a mere $150.

Lenovo wants to be a bigger part of the tech landscape, by launching a series of tablets and smartphones that will give them the needed credit and fame. After all, we are dealing with the biggest PC maker in China, that has just announced a new business unit, that will handle handsets and slates.

Rory Read, Lenovo COO mentioned that in the following 12 to 18 months will be crucial for the new company segment, as it turns into an important piece of the Lenovo business. We should expect a bunch of dual-core units and some Tegra 2 slates, plus Android all over the product line, but that’s only us making predictions…

While the HP/Palm merger is close to being finalized, we learn that a bunch of other important companies were interested in the webOS handset maker as well. The names are quite surprising and here they are, according to Business Insider: Google, Lenovo, RIM and… Apple.

When Palm filed the merger documentation with the SEC, they mentioned 16 potential bidders with 4 finalists getting their best shot. Business Insider’s Dan Frommer details the above-mentioned companies’ offers. For example, RIM offered a $6-7 share, but lost the deal, when it backed down to $5.50 a share.

Lenovo wanted a stock for stock trade, but the transaction would have taken too long for Palm’s liking. Google wanted only the company’s huge patent portofolio, but the deal didn’t come through and Apple apparently offered $600 million in cash, but it was surpassed by HP’s $1.2 billion. Why would Steve Jobs and co want Palm?

Most likely, they were after the company’s patent portofolio, including hundreds of items and protecting their owner from any lawsuits.
