Windows Mobile Dying… at Least the Brand Is

July 30th, 2009 | by Yorga |

Microsoft must be euphoric after convincing Yahoo to hand over the keys to its search engine and implements its secrets on Bing and while they’re making such moves, they might as well rebrand Windows Mobile. Say what?

That’s right, the Windows Mobile brand will be dead and it’ll be replaced by the bizarre “Windows Phone”, as The Inquirer informs us.

This change will apply to all the versions of the OS, even Windows Mobile 7 and 6.5. Microsoft intends to stay away from the bad publicity that its mobile OS got over the years and start fresh, with a new brand, showing the fact that the PC experience can be ported to the mobile platform.

For now, I just can’t imagine someone saying: “Hey dude, did you install the new version of Windows Phone 6.5?”. How can you install something branded “phone”? Sounds pretty strange…
