HTC Desire to Get Software Update, 720P Encoding Included

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

HTC Desire, the Nexus One twin is about to get even sexier, through a couple of feats added by an upcoming software update. In case you don’t remember, this device uses the HTC Sense UI, its major difference from the Nexus One. What’s coming in the next update? DivX support and 720P video encoding.

If you remember, the HTC roadmap leaked on the web back in December mentioned the handset as HTC Bravo and had “HD ready” written on it, so we’d expect the feature to be present. In case you’re wondering why DivX support wasn’t present on the phone in the first place, it may be the fault of the handset getting rushed towards release.

DivX support will allow the users to watch movies from their SD cards, playing them without issues. Meanwhile, you might be interested to know that some folks have come up with a petition to implement Nintendo and PSX emulator on Android. Back to the update, it seems that Desire will also get 720P video encoding.

Apparently, 3 Sweden mentioned the March launch date for the HTC Bravo on its official Facebook page. This handset is a brilliant combo between a Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7 inch AMOLED display and a 5 megapixel camera, plus the Android 2.1 OS, complete with HTC Sense UI.

HTC Bravo is Actually HTC Incredible?

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Before HTC managed to leak most part of its 2010 smartphone portofolio on the web months ago, a couple of skilled hackers dissected a ROM and found the HTC Bravo and HTC Incredible names in its code. Now, a bunch of brochure scans popped on the web, courtesy of the XDA board, showing details about the Bravo model, but also mentioning Incredible on the same page.

While the headline of the page pictured above says “Bravo”, the text describes HTC Incredible, as a device sporting a 3.7 inch AMOLED display, viewable from any angle at any time of the day and great for multimedia experiences.

Then there’s the picture below, once again with the Bravo title and once again talking about the Incredible model and its Dolby and DivX features.

This can either mean that the two are one and the same device, or that one is the codename while the other is the official name, or maybe that a branding is meant for the US market and the other for the European market.

We’re really interested in this Android smartphone, because it comes with very neat features, like a 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, GPS, 512 MB Flash and 256 MB RAM.
