We knew from last year that Moto was working on an iDEN Android handset dubbed Opus One, but now it seems that device is meant for a name change, so it’ll be called Motorola i1. The handset will use the MOTOBLUR UI, social networks and widgets included, plus a pretty decent set of specs.

This iDEN phone will probably use Android 1.5 OS, although this is a mere speculation for now and there’s always the possibility for an update. The folks of Engadget expect the device to be announced at CTIA near the end of the current month, so we’ll be getting more details then.
Motorola i1 features a 3 inch capacitive TFT display, with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution, a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and digital zoom, plus MP3 and MPEG4 playback support. The former Opus One also incorporates a microSD/microSDHC card slot, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 2.5mm audio jack.

Motorola Opus One was a mere leaked device till now, but now we’ve found out that this Android iDEN phone will be available via Sprint Nextel. The source of the info is YouTube user jay84305, who “borrowed” the unreleased handset off the streets of Florida. He posted a couple of vids on YouTube, showing the phone’s features, but sadly they were removed.

What we’ve found out from this unusual source, talking in slang English and claiming he took the phone from the street after some guy from Motorola or Sprint dropped it, is that the handset runs Android 1.5 OS and sports the name “p1_opusone” under the battery cover. This phone could also reach Boost Mobile, not only Nextel.
It’s very possible that Android 2.0 or 2.1 will make it to the iDEN Android phone, depending on when it’s released.

No big details on this one, but it seems that we’re witnessing the unveiling of an iDEN Android phone, the first to be more precise. The photos have just surfaced on BGR, bearing the codename of Motorola Opus One. For the right price, this touchscreen device could be a really great seller.

The suite of Google Apps in on board, as you can see and there’s a pretty big touchscreen display in the mix, as shown in the images. Camera at the back, no QWERTY keyboard in sight, so this is not a Motorola Droid relative, we think.
