  • There’s a new and promising app store in town and it’s shaping up to be quite a decent Apple App Store rival. We’re talking about GetJar, the mobile application store that has recently reached 3 million downloads per day. The company managing this store claims that GetJar has reached over 1 billion total downloads so far.

Ilja Laurs, GetJar founder and CEO mentions that daily downloads have gone up over 300% in the last year, with the growth happening specially in NA, Western Europe, Asia and South Africa. The store serves apps on over 2,000 different phones and in over 200 countries.

The company conducted a review recently, involving over 70,000 applications, with the purpose of finding out interests and trends among the millions of users. YouTube, Facebook and Yahoo! Mobile remain the most popular mobile apps, while the top games were “Warships Sea on Fire” and “Racing Mania”.
