Nokia Braille Reader, Beta Labs Tool for Visually Impaired Users

  • Visually impaired users now have new means of using Nokia’s touchscreen phones, thanks to Nokia Braille Reader, a solution developed by Nokia Beta Labs. Available for free as a download from here, this software allows the blind and visually impaired users to read SMS.

    This app is compatible with Nokia’s touchscreen phones, it relies on the Braille alphabet and provides tactile feedback. Nokia Braille Reader was developed in collaboration with the Tampere University and the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired and you have to know that the software is compatible with S60 5th Edition smartphones only.

    The compatible phones are Nokia N97, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5530, Nokia 5230 and Nokia X6. Here’s a video demo of the app, in case you’re curious about how it works:
