  • If anyone remembers, Nokia made an investment in mobile pay company Obopay this Spring and results are finally starting to show up. Turns out that the Finns have just announced a brand new mobile payment service, dubbed Nokia Money, that should debut in 2010.

The service will be showcased during Nokia World 2009, starting next week and it’ll rely on Obopay’s mobile payment platform. Basic features will be supported, like sending money to a person simply by inputting their cellphone number, paying for good and services and recharging prepaid SIM cards.

Nokia Money will be available 24 hours a day and this is more likely a solution meant for rural consumers, since urban ones already have access to online services and many other similar options. Nokia’s mobile payment solution should be available on virtually any mobile phone and we’re wondering if the Finns are trying to get a slice of PayPal’s pie in this segment.
