  • More than one year after closing down its plant in Bochum, Nokia announced more cuts, this time to the personnel and production segments The Finns will close the site in Jyväskylä (Finland) and decrease producton in Salo (Finland).

Jyväskylä handles the research and development and employs 320 people, most of which will be laid off soon..

Nokia’s R&D will be moved to sites in Oulu, Helsinki or Tampere and, as far as the 2500 Salo employees are concerned, the company plans on implementing “temporary lay offs”. All of these actions are taken because of the decrease of demand on the mobile market, as the depression continues.

If you’re in Salo right now and you’re worried, here’s the basic (bad) news: 20-30% of the Salo employees will be temporarily laid off soon.
