Neo1973 OpenMoko Phone Gets FCC Approval
Open source is surely a phenomenon that will grow during the economic depression, due to its lack of fees and the popularity of free software. Neo1973, the first OpenMoko mobile phone was recently approved by FCC, so that means we’ll be seeing First International Computer’s device in the US quite soon.
Neo1973 bundles a 100 to 220 volts adaptor plug, USB charger and cable, USB A to mini B cable, a stylus, an earphone, the battery and an SD memory card. The first OpenMoko handset measures 120.7 mm x 62 mm x 18.5 mm, weighs 135 grams and features a 2.8 inch screen with a 480 x 640 pixels resolution.
Its Flash memory is 128/256MB and hidden behind the exterior shell there’s a Samsung s3c2442 Soc processor (400 MHz) and 128 MB SDRAM. Neo1973 supports GPRS 2.5G, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and WiFi connectivity, but there’s no trace of EDGE on this specs list. Add a u-blox GPS on the previously mentioned list, the OpenMoko Linux OS and a 2x1W stereo speaker plus a 2.5mm jack and the package is complete.
