  • After being launched in Moldova as a world premiere, Orange’s HD Voice calls service will reach the UK this year. You can consider the initial rollout of the service a test, so the international launch probably means that everything went OK and the UK is ready to get an alternative for standard definition calls.

Orange will start trials of this new technology based on 3G connections and they’ll also prepare a bunch of handsets for international rollout before the end of 2010. What’s HD Voice all about? Apparently, it will “make it sound as if the callers are actually in the same room”, says Orange UK chief executive Tom Alexander.

Officially, tests of the HD Voice services are to begin ASAP in the UK and their debut will take place before the year end.
