Fresh Sidekick 4G Pictures Show Us the Goods!

Earlier this week, we’ve stumbled upon an image showing a new version of the Sidekick, that’s coming to T-Mobile. The new device will sport 4G connectivity, thus resulting the logical name Sidekick 4G. However, don’t expect LTE or WiMAX, but rather HSPA+, since this is T-Mobile we’re talking about. Here’s a fresh batch of pics portraying the new texting wonderkid.

A front camera is present on the new handset and strangely enough there’s a Samsung logo on the back of the device, although we’ve known that the first generation of Sidekicks was made by Sharp. The original form factor is kept, while the OS of choice is Android 2.2.1. Well, considering how long it took (it still takes) Samsung to update Galaxy S to Froyo in the US, people will avoid this model when they learn about its OS and its maker.

Sidekick Gets Android, Heads to T-Mobile via Emerald Project

T-Mobile’s mysterious “Project Emerald” is getting detailed these days, so we’ve learned that a Sidekick handset is coming to the carrier’s portofolio, most likely with Android on board. This info comes from Tmonews, that usually has pretty good info on the American carrier.

Known as Sidekick Twist, the handset will be made by HTC and it’ll run Android 2.1. Word has it that it’ll use a 1GHz processor, a front facing camera and a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display, which is great. Rumours also mention 16GB of memory, built-in like the Droid Incredible.

The phone is coming to the market this summer, but till then we’ll keep you up to date regarding its evolution.

T-Mobile Puts Sidekick Back in Stores

Remember T-Mobile’s epic fail with the Sidekick outage from last month? It resulted in a period of time when the handset was not available in shops, but now sales have resumed.

You’ll be able to buy the Sidekick 2008 for $49 with a 2 year contract, while the Sidekick LX 2009 will go for $149 with a two year contract. Meanwhile, T-Mobile still has to deal with the effects of the outage, that left users without their precious data for weeks.

Most of the important data was recovered and, strangely enough, customers are getting images back via email instead of having them restored on their devices. Whatever the carrier says or does, the outage remains a huge blow for Sidekick’s image.

Sidekick Data Lost Forever?

Remember the issue with T-Mobile’s Sidekicks? Turns out that the data lost by the users of these handsets on the American carrier’s network have lost their contacts, calendar entries and more data for good… At least T-Mobile issued a statement, announcing that it won’t be able to recover data. Good work, fellows!

If you didn’t backup your important info, contacts and God knows what else, you can probably say “goodbye” to the most important things that can be stored on a handset and via a carrier’s service.

Also, you should know this: T-Mobile warns the affected users not to power off their devices, reset them by removing the battery or let it drain completely, or else the needed personal content will be gone.

Facebook and Twitter Now Available on Sidekick Models

In case you didn’t know, even Sidekicks have their own App Store, called the Sidekick Download Catalog, that just got updated with Facebook and Twitter apps. The software is compatible with Sidekick LX, Sidekick Slide and the 2008 Sidekick.

The Facebook app is available for free, while the Twitter software will cost you $2 a month. Sidekick 2009 comes with these apps on board.

Since the Sidekick LX is kind of the coolest thing in a teen’s pocket right now, it would be a pity not to have an add to match it coolness. So, here’s the commercial for the 3G Sidekick sold by T-Mobile, a pretty original dance off ad:

The social networking side of the device is emphasized and the fact that it keeps you connected with your friends via Twitter, Facebook and whatnot. A speedy 3G connection couple with social networking feats equals a mountain of fun, even if you’re at home sick, but you’re “at” the party via the web.

Sidekick LX 2009 Gets Exchange Support for $4.99 per Month

If you’re all about productivity, but you just won’t say “no” to teenage devices meant for texting, then Sidekick LX 2009 plus its new Exchange feature is the thing to choose. The tweens’ perfect phone now comes with Sidekick Sync, an app that’ll hit the handset’s Download Catalog soon, providing all the Exchange features you need.

The app will have you paying $4.99 a month and it’ll enable push email, attachment viewing, contact and calendar synchronization plus a couple of other Exchange features. Anything to avoid a BlackBerry, right?

3G Sidekick LX, Now Available Via T-Mobile

After a pretty long waiting time, the 3G enabled Sidekick LX handset is available on T-Mobile’s online store for $249.99 with a 2 year contract and after a $50 mail in rebate. The new Sidekick is slimmer than its predecessor and it packs a 3.2 inch screen and a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and video recording.

LX supports GSM quadband and UMTS triband global 3G connectivity, plus GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA 1.8 Mbit/s and HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/s. The new Sidekick uses a 1250 mAh Li-ion battery, that will provide 5.5 hours of talk time and 192 hours of standby time and its specs list also includes a video player, a microSD slot, predictive text input and Bluetooth 2.0 (Stereo Bluetooth).

GPS is also on board, together with the Danger OS and a full QWERTY keyboard, the main appeal of the Sidekick LX.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX Gets Price Update

The 3G Sidekick LX 2009 should become available for $200 (after mail in rebate), but only for existing T-Mobile customers, while the new customers will have to pay $250 for the appealing texting device. This news comes in order to chase away any confusion, regarding the real price of the new Sidekick.

We remind you that the handset features a very impressive screen, the likes of which you’ve seen on BlackBerry 8900 and BlackBerry Bold, plus an uber-keyboard, the QWERTY kind, for all texting freaks out there. The keys are harder than on the phone’s predecessors, but the typing speed is way higher than the one on a BlackBerry, for example.

Even the 3.2 megapixel camera can provide some satisfaction, as it’s an autofocus unit, that takes sharp pictures, but it only performs brilliantly in optimal lighting.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX Gets Official Announcement and Launch Date

The latest Sidekick handset was finally announced by T-Mobile and word’s out that it’ll hit the shelves on May 13th for $199 with a 2 year agreement. You’ll find it in two color choices, carbon and orchid, via T-Mobile.

Sidekick LX features a 3.2 inch 854 x 480 resolution Sharp F-WVGA display, GPS, a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with video recording, Microsoft Exchange and T-Mobile 3G/HSDPA.

The device also integrates Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, plus GPS-powered Live Search and much, much more. Will this seemingly perfect texting device score big for T-Mobile?
