Obama Inauguration Makes Cellphone Jamming Look Viable
Obama’s inauguration ceremony was quiet and lacked incidents thanks to the authorities and maybe cellphone jamming played a part in this. The Washington Post claims that Federal authorities used cellphone jamming technologies during the event and now it turns out that local authorities want to be granted the same power.
You should know that cellphone jamming is illegal, unless it’s done by the authorities and with a very, very good reason. Basically, it all comes down to sending a “barrage of energy that drowns out signals across multiple bands”. There’s also the possibility of scanning and jamming only certain signals, which is far better than jamming each and every phone in an area.
The problem with cellphone jamming is that emergencies may happen and folks would want to call 911 and get through without having their signal jammed. There were talks about equipping the police with jamming equipment, but I don’t see that happening too soon because: 1. they cost quite a bit and 2. they could be used in the wrong way, at the wrong time.
