Qualcomm Chips to Reach Mainstream Phones, Provide 1 GHz Speeds
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPU has opened new ways of evolution for smartphones, but these chips have only made it to the hottest devices on the market till now. How about putting them on mainstream phones? That’s the trend that Qualcomm wants to follow from now…
Thus, the company has just introduced today the MSM7x30 family of solutions, including an 800 MHz to 1 GHz custom superscalar CPU based on the ARM v7 instruction set. This solution is capable of supporting 720p video encoding, 30 fps decoding, 2D/3D graphics and 5.1 channel surround sound.
A 12 megapixel camera sensor will also be supported, as well as built-in GPS, OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.1. Qualcomm is also readying the first chipsets for dual carrier HSPA+ and multi-mode 3G/LTE, for some uber fast connectivity. Details on these chipsets are available here.
