Here we have another fine example of a 720p display phone, known as the Arrow Z and made by Fujitsu Toshiba. We’re dealing here with a dual core phone that uses a TI processor and comes with a 13 megapixel camera.

After the upgraded Galaxy S II with HD display that was announced recently, this is yet another HD handset that we’re dealing with and now the avalanche might start. HTC, Motorola and LG are all readying 720p display phones, that are all incoming. Back to the Arrow Z, this handset is waterproof and it comes in 3 color versions: white, black and fuchsia.

Its 1280 x 720 display measures 4.3 inches in diagonal and the specs of the smartphone also include a 1.3 megapixel front camera, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory. There’s also IR, a digital TV tuner and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, that runs on a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 CPU at 1.2GHz. Sadly, this model will only debut in Japan in November, but we’re drooling in Europe, that’s for sure.

Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T is the very first Windows Phone Mango smartphone, one that also brings another premiere to the platform: a 13.2 megapixel camera. Previously rumored and pictured weeks ago, this device will only be available in Japan for now, but we hope to see in Europe and the US as well.

We’re dealing with waterproof smartphone with a 3.7 inch WVGA display, a Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU (the same as the one on Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt) with undisclosed frequency. This model will go on sale in September on KDDI’s au network. Other specs include 32GB of flash memory, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi.

Also, you’ll get quite a bunch of color versions of this device, including the pinkish one pictured below. Will you get this first Mango OS handset? Or will you wait for that Samsung Galaxy S II lookalike with WP7 on board or maybe for the Nokia Sea Ray?

Unbelievable as that may seem, the very first Windows Phone Mango handset might actually come to Japan first… One would expect the phone to drop in the US of A first, considering it’s the homeland of the maker of Windows Phone.

Japanese carrier KDDI might launch the first WP handset with Mango in August and this will be a Toshiba-Fujitsu model codenamed IS12T. It will sport a 3.7 inch LCD display and a water resistant case and it’ll be the same product showcased just days ago at WPC11. Right now the model has Bluetooth and FCC clearance, meaning that we’ll get an US launch date pretty soon.

Strangely enough, Mango hasn’t been confirmed for launch on an exact date yet and already there’s talk of a first phone with it on board launching next month… After all it could be a misunderstanding, right?

Apple, are you seeing this? Toshiba has just announced a new camera sensor, that could be appealing for handset manufacturers looking to implement fresh photo technology on their devices. Well, we can’t help but remember the days of the Nokia N95, that was introduced in 2007 and for the first time made phones look like decent replacements for point and shot cameras.

It doesn’t take a 12 megapixel shooter to do wonders, as an 8MP or even 5MP one with innovative technology can take super shots. Just look at the iPhone 4 and the way it dominates the Flickr photo upload, even ahead of some popular Canon and Nikon models. Back to Toshiba’s new product, they’ve just announced a new 8 megapixel CMOS sensor with pixels as small as 1.12 micrometers.

The camera relies on back side illumination technology (BSI), generating incredible low light performance, something that lacks even from the most modern phones. The technology’s appeal is the fact that the sensor measures 1/4 inches and it’s small enough to be fitted into the thinnest of smartphones.

Will Apple adopt this technology on the iPhone 5 or 6?

This 10 inch device is shown in action by an official during the Mobile World Congress 2011 event in Barcelona. The unit runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and its industrial design is pretty nice.

The battery is removable, unlike the one of some other slate models we know and it can grant you one full day of work (a bit over 8 hours). Toshiba Tablet’s display can adjust its contrast and brightness depending on the environment it’s used in, a bonus for people who leave the office and use the device outside.

This gadget comes with dual cameras, a front 2MP one for videochat and the main 5MP one, at the back. Also, this Toshiba product packs a HDMI port that brings the content on it to the big TV screen. This can also be done through a special dock. More info on the slate, launch date and price will be available in the following weeks.

This is an Android 2.1 device, but let’s hope for an update when the unit is launched via Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. It also gets a NFC chip and a 4 inch screen with a 854 x 480 pixel resolution. A GPS is also on board and the main selling point of the device is its 12.2 megapixel camera. The interface looks hot and we bet that Bluetooth and WiFi are also among the specs.

Reuters quotes business publication Nikkei in a recent piece, saying that Toshiba will build a new plant, in order to manufacture iPhone LCD displays. Toshiba Corp will spend around $1.19 billion on this initiative, that will result in millions of small LCD panels for Apple’s phones.

Toshiba Mobile Display Co will build the new facility in the Ishikawa prefecture, where there’s already a factory making 8.55 million units per month. After the ugprade, the production will be doubled, according to Nikkei. The company’s technology involves low temperature polysilicon LCD panels, that support high-resolution images.

Toshiba will start work on the new plant in early 2011, with production kicking off in H2 2011.

Techradar has had the unique opportunity of snooping around Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 labs, where devices and software are being tested for bugs and malfunctions. Models made by various OEMs were scattered all over the place and there was even a surprise: a bunch of Acer units that weren’t yet announced and the Toshiba TG02 model pictured below.

Although this may seem like the Toshiba TG01 phone, it’s very likely that this is the TG02, since WP7 requires a capacitive touchscreen display, that this device features. Back to the test labs, they were pretty amazing, as shown by Techradar’s piece and at some point even Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 came up, obviously as jokes and hopes for the future.

Hundreds of Microsoft employees on the campus are working and focusing straight on WP7, putting a lot of effort into it. Server farms are involved and thousands of virtual phones are running night and day, checking for errors caused by any situation one can imagine. If a device encounters a critical error, it takes a snapshot of the reason for it and it’s sent to engineers for investigation.

More on the cool Microsoft labs in Techradar’s full story.

The first placed company is Sharp and the merger of the two comes one year after they joined operations in their hard drive making segments.

One of the reasons for this merger is that Fujitsu makes dumbphones mostly, while Toshiba is great with smartphones, like the Snapdragon-based TG02. Also, we know that Fujitsu will own 70-80% of the new company, since it’s the bigger mobile player.

Let’s see if the two will announce a Windows Phone 7 or Android 2.2 device in the following weeks…
