After the whole Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX craziness, here comes the Droid 4 to give the guys and gals who love QWERTY + touch combos a chance. We’ve just found out that Verizon will sell the Motorola Droid 4 for $199.99 on contract, or so says a recent MAP list that Droid-Life uncovered. This kind of pricing is normal for Verizon and shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The device was also showcased at CES 2012 early this month and some may have expected this LTE phone to actually be available for $299.99 like other previous 4G phones from this carrier. However, with the precedent of the LG Spectrum priced at $199.99, even this low price point doesn’t surprise anymore. For this amount you get a well spaced 5 row QWERTY keyboard on the Droid 4, as well, as a 4 inch QHD display and a 1.2GHz dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM.

The handset measures half an inch in thickness and comes with 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and an 8 megapixel camera. That’s pretty much everything we got on the RAZR, except for the keyboard and screen size. Motorola Droid 4 also has the advantage of being able to roam overseas, which is a premiere for a Verizon 4G LTE phone. Sadly, we have no release date for this product, but I can bet that you’ll get it around Valentine’s Day.

The Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, advertised as the longest lasting 4G phone has just become available on Verizon’s site for $299 and already there’s a better offer. Amazon Wireless offers a $100 discount and gives you the device for $199.99 with a Verizon contract.

Meanwhile, the handset is available on Motorola’s website for $599.99 and I guess that’s off contract and unlocked offer. The Droid RAZR MAXX is very much like the original Droid RAZR, that came late last year, but this newcomer brings an extended battery life, through a pretty big power source – 3300 mAh battery.

This one provides over 24 hours of battery life and the rest of the specs remain the same, including the dual core CPU, 8MP camera, Kevlar back, Android Gingerbread and slim design, that has been bulked up a bit by the battery. Another handset to keep your eyes on is the Droid 4, that’s seen by many as the RAZR with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Tempted about either of these Moto units?

LG’s got a fresh LTE smartphone after the Nitro HD/Spectrum, the Connect 4G model. This handset was recently spotted at the FCC and it’s coming to Verizon quite soon, according to some rumors. The device made an appearance at CES as well early this month, with MetroPCS branding and support for their own 4G LTE network.

Now we get a Verizon version as well, as shown by the recent FCC filing. The device is referred to as model number VS840 with approval already gained for CDMA/EvDO bands and the LTE band 13, used by The Big Red in USA. Bluetooth and WiFi are of course supported and the LG Connect 4G also comes with a 4 inch NOVA display, a 5MP camera and a 1.2GHz dual core processor, plus Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device can be seen as a smaller alternative to the LG Spectrum, that packs a huge 4.5 inch display.

No trace of pricing or launch date here, but if you keep reading GSMDome, we might get that info at some point…

The Big Red has just made available two interesting handsets, the LG Spectrum and BlackBerry Curve 9370, so you get a Gingerbread 720p offering and a business QWERTY handset. The LG Spectrum is also found on AT&T with different branding (Nitro HD), but this time it comes with a plastic coating and support for 4G connectivity.

The BlackBerry Curve 9370 is a budget-friendly smartphone and both newcomers have hit the shelves today. The LG Spectrum is priced at $199 with a 2 year contract and you must know that it’s a dual core affair with a 720p 4.5 inch display and LTE connectivity. Meanwhile, the QWERTY smartphone from RIM gets NFC, a 5MP camera and a $99 price tag on contract. This product also packs in quad band support with GSM, GPRS and EDGE available, a 2.44 inch display included in the mix, as well as Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi b/g/n.

Owners of the LG Spectrum will get a True HD screen, an ESPN ScoreCenter application with exclusive HD video and a dual core 1.5GHz processor. You’ll find both handsets online and in Verizon stores for the prices mentioned above. Add to all of the specs mentioned above for the LG smartphone an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, 1080p video capture, mobile hotspot ability and a front 1.3MP camera.

The latest in LG mobile technology is the Spectrum handset, that’s supposed to come to Verizon on January 19. This is a LTE phone that was showcased at CES 2012 in Las Vegas this week. Previously the model was leaked as a pretty clear picture, with some specs attached to it. You can still find the device on the CES if you’re in Vegas.

We’re dealing here with a LG 4G LTE handset that features a 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM an 8 megapixel camera and a 4.5 inch 720p True HD IPS screen. The specs aren’t that different from the ones of the LG Nitro HD aka LG Optimus LTE, so you’re not missing anything by not purchasing it. There’s also a 1.3MP front camera and a huge 1830 mAh battery to give you enough juice for LTE and other functions. LG Spectrum runs Gingerbread for the time being, but it’s a certain candidate to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in this quarter.

The price tag of this new phone on Verizon is $199 and the launch date is, as I said, January 19th. Not that anyone has any money left from the Xmas season right now… Well, at least you can sell your older mobile and go with this one. Expect more phones from LG to come at MWC 2012.

Since it’s the end of the year, by now we have already figured out what each carrier will be launching at Christmas time. There are a couple of surprises left up the mobile operators’ sleeves, like this HTC Fireball model, uncovered in the Verizon systems, with 4G LTE connectivity.

Verizon is supposed to debut this model next year and we have no idea that to expect from this smatphone. Well, I wouldn’t exactly assume it’s a phone, since it could still be a tablet. The date shown in the pic above is not a lunch date, so don’t be happy, since it’s the date when the device was added to the Verizon system. The model codename, ADR6410L places the handset between the HTC Rezound and the HTC Thunderbolt model, so it maybe sort of a mid to high end smartphone.

It could be that we’re analyzing this the wrong way and this is in fact that coveted first quad core smartphone from HTC, a model that we’re expecting to see both at CES 2012 and MWC 2012. We’ve heard names such as HTC Edge thrown around and some interesting designs with sharp edges and 720p displays, but I guess that we’ll have to wait till 2012 to get some real shots.

Well, since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is out today, it’s time to give it its first OTA update, courtesy of Verizon. The carrier that just started selling the phone today will give the handset Android 4.0.2 build ICL53F, as shown by their support page. Most of changes won’t be noticed immediately, of course, since the update is minor.

For one thing, you’ll get 3G/4G data and Mobile Hotspot over VPN, improvements to the visual effects function of the front camera and enhancements of the visual section in the handset’s lock screen. The update measures a mere 10.7MB, a download that will work fast especially on a 4G LTE handset. Another important feature that I want on all devices ever made and that I was surprised to miss from this phone is the reconnection via WiFi to a known Access point once you’re in its range again.

Issues with email attachments were also fixed and DivX support has been removed, but it will come back in a future upgrade. Well, I’m testing and reviewing a Galaxy Nexus right now and look forward to seeing some more changes… for example, I think that the volume is not loud enough, not even in YouTube videos, so what’s up with that?

We don’t even have an official launch date for the smartphone… In the meantime, we see bits and pieces of it, through leaks and videos appearing online, like the one below.

This Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone just appeared in a new video, that shows the phone with an official extended battery. That power source doesn’t even beef up the phone, as one would think. This improved battery is a 2100 mAh unit instead of the standard 1850 mAh unit, probably to give more juice for LTE duties. Back to the launch of the Galaxy Nexus, we know that this phone will come with a $299 price tag on contract, when Verizon finally decides to release it.

That extra battery will be priced at $50, in case you want to know. In the meantime, there are other options for purchase, aside from Verizon. Costco, for example is getting ready to sell the handset from December 15th with a $289 price tag on contract. Also, know that in Canada, Bell and Virgin Mobile already have the phone available for days now, with $159 price tags and 3 years of contract.

We’ve heard that the Nokia Lumia 900 might come with LTE connectivity, but now it appears that there’s actually a device made by the Finns that’s being tested on AT&T and Verizon for such functions. As far as I know Windows Phone 7.5 Mango doesn’t support 4G LTE connectivity, but maybe the next Windows Phone version will.

CNET is saying that Nokia is testing a 4G LTE handset with carriers, trying to accelerate the carrier approval process. We’re expecting a flagship phone from the Nordic company in early 2012, one that’s rumored to run Windows Phone Tango and pack the same 1.4GHz processor as the Lumia 800 and 710. However, it could be that this 4.3 inch ClearBlack AMOLED phone will come with 4G, an 8 megapixel camera and maybe a front camera as well. Verizon is already known for a big portofolio of LTE devices, that include the Droid RAZR, HTC Rezound and Galaxy Nexus, while AT&T is barely catching up.

CES 2012 is starting in a few weeks and this is where we’ll see what novelty the phone makers have prepared for us. Maybe we’ll even see that rumored Nokia tablet that everyone was talking about…with Windows 8 and a bigger Nokia N9 format, just maybe…

For a while there, it was rumored that Verizon was preparing a Revolution 2 handset, that’s now proved to be the LG Spectrum. Droid Life is reporting on this device, that’s pictured below and it’s supposed to be the same device that surfaced in the Verizon system last month with the codename VS920.

The handset comes with a 1.5GHz dual core processor, 720p HD display and an 8 megapixel camera capable of HD video capture. This is a LTE device, that will give the public yet another alternative between the Droid 4, Droid RAZR, HTC Rezound and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The photo here is pretty small, but we can make out an appealing handset, that’s actually pretty slim when compared to its presumed predecessor. LG also stays true to its button placement, keeping the same design as all the Optimus units have had over the past year.

In case you’re guessing that this an US version of the LG Optimus LTE (or yet another version of the LG Nitro HD), you might be right, considering the specs available on this model. Keep in mind that it runs Gingerbread, but I’m sure it will receive Ice Cream Sandwich as soon as 2012 kicks in. Now we only have to find out the price and we’re all set…
