Nokia is expected to unveil at least one new high end smartphone at Mobile World Congress, an event that starts in about two weeks in Barcelona. This is the biggest tech show of the year, so it’s bound to contain some novelty. It will take place in Barcelona and span from February 27th to March 1st.

The info about the new Nokia high end device comes from Forbes, quoting insiders from the industry. Nokia’s MWC presentations will show us what to expect in 2012 and I’m sure that their next big thing will be related to Windows Phone or maybe even Windows 8 if it’s a tablet. Like all major companies in this playing field, Nokia is tight lipped about what they’ll announce in Barcelona. Forbes also says that a partner of Nokia’s was the one announcing the product that will come at MWC 2012, while also saying it will run “an unusual software feature”, that’s usually found on high end smartphones.

Could it be a new type of LTE device specifically created for Europe? Or maybe it will have a 720p display? Many have said that we’re to expect here the Nokia Lumia 910, an European version of the Lumia 900 with a 12 megapixel camera and HSPA+ connectivity. If you want the clear details, know that Nokia’s press conference will take place on February 27th in the morning. Keep in mind that we could also witness the launch of a hot new Symbian phone with a camera that will make it the successor of the N8 model.

PocketNow has just got their hands on a brand new LG Windows Phone unit, dubbed Miracle. All they have right now is the picture below and some specs, but this is a more familiar model than you think, since some of you may know it as the LG Fantasy, first detailed last July. The LG Miracle is supposed to be a mid-range handset with a 4 inch display.

The real novelty here is the fact that the screen uses NOVA technology, a first for the Windows Phone segment. LG Miracle supports a WVGA resolution, has a 1GHz processor, 8 GB of storage, a 1.3MP front camera and 5MP back camera. These are all standard WP features, so nothing surprising. On the connectivity side we get 14.4Mbps HSPA radio, 5.0 GHz WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The phone will come with NFC tag reading abilities, although that hasn’t exactly been detailed.

Rumors say that this phone will be shown at Mobile World Congress this month and released this Spring. No info on price and carrier so far and one can only hope for a good price tag here. According to the FCC documents from last year, this model supports CDMA bands, so we could see it on Verizon or Sprint.

We may be close to MWC 2012, but some people are still looking back at the tech events from last year and drawing conclusions from them. One of those is the Nokia World 2011 conference that took place last fall. What you see below is a slide from the event showing current and future form factors that Nokia will adopt. As you can see, there’s also a tablet in there.

In the “today” section we see the current Windows Phone layout with both capacitive buttons and the screens. And next there’s a square-ish unit, that may be a companion watch just like the one made by Sony Ericsson and Motorola, followed by a tinier full touch handset to the right. Next there’s a touch and type unit, in equal measure a QWERTY device and a touchscreen-based one, followed by the current unit and then a large display full touch handset.

In the end we find a full touch tablet, that might just be that Windows 8 Nokia Tab that everyone is talking about. The touch & type unit included here makes sense, since Windows Phone Apollo is rumored to bring lower resolutions and keyboard & display combos, with the result being BlackBerry-like phones. It could also mean the resurrection of Nokia’s E Series, this time with Windows Phone on board.

Nokia announced this week the brand new white version of the Lumia 800 handset, its very first Windows Phone device, only to post on its Facebook account a pic that looks strangely enough like the Lumia 900. The info got out and every major tech blog out there took the info and went with it, while Nokia pulled down the image eventually.

There are several factors going in favor of the leaked Lumia 900 theory. One of them is the presence of a front facing camera on this phone, so unless Nokia decided to launch a Lumia 800 with a front camera upgrade, this is the more recent model. Also, this white handset is shown without AT&T branding and knowing that the Lumia 900 is meant to be an US-only device, this could be good news for Europeans and Asians, if this is truly the newer Windows Phone with a 4.3 inch display.

So, considering the pic was taken down by now, it’s clear that this is the Lumia 900 and that it’s coming to Europe, too. What about that theory about the upgraded version of the phone with 12 megapixel camera and speculated Lumia 910 branding? What do you think?

Nokia Lumia 900, the latest Windows Phone announced by the Finns was just made available for pre-order at Microsoft Stores. We’re dealing here with a 4.3 inch smartphone, basically a bigger version of the Lumia 800 and you must know that the Lumia 900 took off at CES 2012.

Pre-orders for this product happen at the Microsoft physical stores, that will set you back $25 to give you the chance to reserve a unit. The flagship model is available in cyan or black and sadly we have no idea what price this WP Mango smartphone will sport when it’s finally launched.

AT&T announced the availability of the handset last month, praising the device as the first Nokia 4G LTE phone. Rumors say that we should expect a price of $99.99, which is incredible for a 4.3 inch LTE smartphone with 8 megapixel camera, 1.4GHz processor and the latest Windows Phone version. We would have expected something like $249 or $299, so this is great.

If you don’t own a Windows Phone unit, then the Lumia 900 is what you need, but if you already own one, you’d better wait for the impressive WP8 handsets.

Nokia Lumia 800 has had a bit of a rough history since its launch, being plagued by battery issues , that were supposedly corrected by a software update, that for some users made the matters worse. Nokia Nokia is claiming that the second fix it offered really solves the issue, but now people are complaining about audio and camera issues.

The update that Nokia discussed recently is version 1600.2483.8106.11500, that was supposed to increase standby time and bring an improvement to the battery issues reported by customers in December. What the customers have been complaining about is the fact that the handset wasn’t able to access the full battery charge capacity correctly. Audio and camera settings are now the issues to address in future updates, although Nokia didn’t provide any exact time frame for those.

In the meantime the Finns recommend you use the original Nokia Fast USB Charger AC-16 or the Nokia Charging and Data Cable CA-185CD that came with the phone, so they supposed that some of the users have been using some other chargers, if you ask me what this phrase means. There’s also a Diagnostic app here, designed for internal resting purposes and Nokia recommends that you find extra battery information in the Settings>System>Battery saver area.

HTC Titan II, the first 16 megapixel mainstream phone, announced at CES this month has just been spotted at the FCC with AT&T LTE included. The device was discovered in official documents with the codename HTC PI86100 and it seems to support AT&T-specific LTE bands (4 and 17). Documents show that a production unit of the handset will arrive pretty soon, although we have no idea when.

As I said, the Titan II was showcased at CES, in Las Vegas and it’s a follow-up to last autumn’s huge display Windows Phone model, the Titan. It keeps the big screen diagonal of 4.7 inches, the 800 x 480 pixel resolution and it’s still a pretty heavy and thick unit, at 13mm and 147 grams. It doesn’t have a memory card slot, but what it does have is a potent 16 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash, BSI sensor, image stabilization and the surprisingly underwhelming 720p 30 fps video capture.

It appears that this model also has a secondary camera, a 1.3MP sensor. The CPU inside is a Qualcomm S2 Snapdragon 1.5GHz one and we also get DLNA, HSDPA, stereo FM radio with RDS and a Li-Ion 1730 mAh battery. If you had to choose between this phone and the Nokia Lumia 900, what would you choose?

Of course, the price applies to a 2 year contract and this flagship smartphone will feature about the same specs as the Lumia 800, aside from the bigger display, obviously. We have a single core 1.4 GHz processor, an 8 megapixel camera, Windows Phone Mango OS, 512 MB of RAM and a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. Keep in mind that the phone has yet to receive technical approval, so we may be in for a delay.

The price point could make this handset a huge hit, like it was in the UK and France. I must remind you that Nokia sold over 1 million Lumia units since these models were made available late last year. With the Lumia 900 and rumored Lumia 910 12MP model coming, things might get big this year.

The folks on XDA Developers have recently published on the main site some pictures of a Sony smartphone that’s supposed to run Windows Phone 7. This looks very much like the Xperia Arc S, but one that runs the Microsoft mobile OS. Odds are this is a fake handset, especially since it lacks the classic Windows Phone buttons.

Last I heard, Sony was working on a Windows Phone prototype back in 2010 and that device was called Julie. The lack of the “Back”, “Windows” and “Search” buttons is the strongest argument against the identity of this phone, but that collection of physical buttons at the bottom could well be a replacement for those. I guess that MS would want Sony to give them a different look, especially when compared to an Android phone that’s already famous. Also, there’s no evidence regarding a side camera button, which is also a requirement on Windows Phone devices.

It could still be there, but hidden in the case… however these shots are anything but clear, so I can’t quite tell right now… We want to see a Sony Windows Phone smartphone, but even at our most enthusiastic moment we can’t imagine it will look exactly like a pretty successful Android phone. I guess that Mobile World Congress 2012 will give us the answer… if Sony doesn’t showcase a WP unit there they won’t do it anywhere.

A recent study done by the guys of allaboutwindowsphone reveals that Windows Phone Marketplace is moving fast and it has just reached over 60k apps. That’s impressive, especially if you take into account the fact that it took 25 days to go from 50k to 60k items. And most of all it took 40 days previously to go from 40.000 apps to 50.000 for Windows Phone devices.

Right now 61,479 items are available, courtesy of 15,173 publishers. All About Windows Phone has its own tracking system, that reveals the growth of the platform and its app store, generating the graphics included here. I’m sure that the Nokia Lumia handsets played a bit part in this evolution. Recently I’ve heard analysts saying that Nokia sold around 800k to 2 million Lumia units, an important addition to the WP7 portofolio. And with HTC Titan II unveiled at CES and probably more models coming at MWC I can only see this OS expanding and increasing in market share.

The problem I always had with the Marketplace is that its prices are higher than on Android Market and sometimes even the Apple App Store. On the upside, at least we get a try before you buy option and the whole Xbox Live thing is working just great. I’d take that over Apple’s Game Center anyday, to be honest. How long till WP Marketplace reaches 100k apps at this rate?
