If you thought that HP was out of the phone biz, well guess again, since the company’s senior director of consumer PCs and tablets for Asia Pacific has confirmed a return to the handset segment. The info came during an interview with the Indian Express.



HP is not done with the smartphones, in spite of the failure of the Pre series and webOS. They basically crashed Palm into a tree and killed any chance that webOS had to become a big platform. The official mentioned above says that HP has to be in the smartphone game and seeing their latest Android tablets, I guess they may go with Android this time around.

The HP exec says that the company will offer a differentiated experience, in order to stand out from the competition. Nowadays, all Android phone makers offer basically the same experience, plus or minus a widget or icon. I have a feeling that they may go with Tizen or Firefox OS, just to stay different…
