Garmin has introduced the Approach S72, a golf-focused smartwatch that records wrist-based swing data alongside course guidance, health tracking and everyday connected features. It is available in 43mm and 47mm case sizes, with an AMOLED display, titanium bezel, sapphire lens and ComfortFit textile band.

The watch records three swing measurements from the wrist to help golfers review their technique:

  • Hand speed
  • Swing-preparation movement amplitude
  • Wrist rotation

Approach S72 can also track heart rate before and after shots, allowing users to compare physiological trends with their score after a round. A dedicated driving-range mode records practice sessions in Garmin Connect, where they can contribute toward daily activity goals.

For on-course planning, the smartwatch offers aerial course imagery and a green-analysis feature. On compatible courses, it can show the direction in which a slope may break the ball and the average slope percentage. The green-analysis feature requires a Garmin Golf Membership. After a round, the Garmin Golf app can show putting statistics including speed and direction deviations, as well as make rate.

Garmin says the Approach S72 is its first golf smartwatch with an integrated speaker and microphone, enabling phone calls through a paired handset and voice commands. It also includes an LED flashlight with adjustable white light and a red-light mode.

Daily tracking features include:

  • Heart-rate monitoring
  • Stress and sleep tracking
  • Body Battery estimated energy monitoring
  • Strength and mobility exercise profiles

For the 47mm version, Garmin rates battery life at up to 16 days in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in golf mode using default settings. Pricing and wider regional availability were not detailed in the supplied announcement information.
