Google is changing how sources appear in AI Mode and AI Overviews, placing more links directly within generated answers and testing new ways to guide users toward the underlying websites. The update also expands news-focused features and introduces profile links for some video results in AI Mode.

  • In-text links will appear more often near the beginning of AI-generated responses.
  • Google is testing a top-of-response section for official pages, with explanations of why each destination may be useful.
  • News carousels are expanding to more regions and languages, with users’ preferred sources highlighted.
  • Related-article recommendations at the end of some responses are gaining photo thumbnails and a more prominent design.
  • AI Mode video results are testing links to creator and publisher profiles when users select an author’s name.

The official-pages test is aimed at searches where reaching the destination matters as much as receiving an AI summary, such as finding a support page or an application form. Google said its Preferred Sources feature has seen its user count rise more than sevenfold since the start of the year.

The creator-profile experiment has tighter eligibility rules. According to Google’s Search profiles documentation, profile creation is currently available in the United States, Canada and India. Eligible accounts need at least 10,000 followers on one supported platform: YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok. Google also says creating a profile does not directly improve a creator’s Search ranking.

The news carousel expansion is described as international, while the official-page module and profile links remain tests. Google has not detailed how broadly those experimental features will roll out beyond their current testing status.
