Coolpad has opened China preorders for the Cool X Wide, an Android phone built around an unusually broad 94.5mm body and a 6.38-inch 16:10 display. The format is designed for side-by-side apps, documents and messaging rather than the tall 20:9 screens common on current smartphones.
Despite its tablet-like proportions, the Cool X Wide is relatively compact in other dimensions at 150.3 x 94.5 x 8.95mm and weighs 209g. Its LCD panel has a 1,158 x 720-pixel resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The nearly 9.5cm width is likely to make one-handed use difficult, but gives the device more horizontal workspace than a conventional handset.

- MediaTek Helio G99 chipset with 4G connectivity
- 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage
- 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage
- LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage
- microSD card expansion up to 256GB
- 50-megapixel main camera and a macro camera
- 4,600mAh battery with 18W charging
- Dual-SIM support and a fingerprint reader

Coolpad says the handset can manage up to eight WeChat accounts and run two apps in split-screen mode. That focus on parallel applications aligns with the wider panel, although the remaining hardware places the device firmly in the budget segment: it uses an HD+ LCD, Helio G99 processor and 18W charging.

A previously reported price of 999 yuan has not been confirmed by Coolpad, and the official listing does not yet show a final price. There is also no word on an international version, leaving the Cool X Wide’s availability outside China unresolved.
