Bose has introduced two new open-ear headphone models, splitting its lineup between the $299 Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) and the $199 Sport Open Earbuds in the US. Both are designed to leave the ear canal unobstructed, using Bose OpenAudio technology to direct sound toward the ear while keeping outside noise audible rather than using active noise cancellation.
| Model | Design and focus | Rated battery life | US price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) | Cuff-style design focused on sound and media features | Up to 9 hours; charging case adds 19.5 hours | $299 |
| Sport Open Earbuds | Curved silicone arm designed for workouts and running | Up to 7 hours; charging case adds 22 hours | $199 |
The second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds retain the cuff-style form factor of the 2024 model, but Bose says the new driver brings deeper bass and higher volume. Snapdragon Sound with aptX Adaptive remains available on compatible Android devices. A new Cinema Mode uses TrueSpatial processing to widen the audio presentation for films and podcasts while keeping dialogue centered.

Bose also adds wireless charging to the Ultra case, alongside SpeechClarity voice isolation for calls and Auto Volume. The changes target practical upgrades over the first generation, including battery life, calling performance, bass response and charging convenience.
The Sport Open Earbuds take a more fitness-oriented approach, wrapping around the ear with a curved silicone arm. They carry an IP54 rating for protection against sweat, splashes and dust, and use textured physical controls intended to remain practical during exercise.
Shared connectivity and software features include:
- Bluetooth 5.4
- Google Fast Pair
- Multipoint pairing for two devices
- Google Find Hub support, planned through a later update
- Alexa+ support, planned through a later update
- Apple Music shortcuts, planned through a later update
US preorders for both models begin September 19, with sales scheduled to start October 1. Bose has not detailed availability or pricing for other markets.
