Apple may move away from concentrating its biggest product announcements in spring and fall, with iPhone releases potentially distributed across more of the year. A Bloomberg report says new CEO John Ternus, who took over in early September, is pushing to accelerate development and give teams more room to experiment as AI reshapes the technology industry.
The report does not establish a new iPhone launch calendar, and any overhaul would likely take time. Apple’s product-development processes have been built over many years, making a rapid shift in the company’s release cadence unlikely.
Rumors of a split iPhone schedule point to one possible direction for the lineup, though Apple has not confirmed any of these products or dates:
- iPhone 18 Pro — rumored to arrive ahead of the spring 2027 releases.
- iPhone Duo — Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, also expected before the spring 2027 models.
- iPhone 18 — expected in spring 2027.
- iPhone 18e — expected in spring 2027.
- iPhone Air 2 — expected in spring 2027.
Internally, Ternus is reportedly seeking a flatter structure between senior leadership and engineering teams. Several managers overseeing engineering projects have reportedly been removed from their roles and given several weeks to find other jobs within Apple. Some divisions have also faced budget and headcount caps, while others have been asked to reduce marketing spending.
Apple also reportedly considered eliminating about 5,000 AppleCare service positions and shifting some responsibilities to AI, but that plan was suspended. The broader goal, according to the report, is for the company to deliver more with fewer employees—a potentially significant change for a company long associated with tightly controlled, methodical development cycles.
Other products said to be in Apple’s pipeline include:
- A new HomePod mini.
- An iPad mini with an OLED display.
- An updated Apple TV 4K.
- AirPods with cameras.
- MacBooks with touchscreens.
Whether Apple formalizes a multi-window iPhone strategy remains unresolved, but such a shift would give its flagship phone range more frequent moments in the market rather than relying on a single annual launch cycle.
