FineMTEC has denied that its components are responsible for reports of cracked or malfunctioning foldable displays on the iPhone Duo, as the cause of the failures remains officially undetermined.
Users began reporting cracks around the center crease and bright lines appearing after only a few folds shortly after the phone’s launch. Attention turned to the hinge after a YouTuber found a broken part inside an iPhone Duo hinge, though that discovery has not established a direct link to the damaged displays.
The South Korean company, also known as Fine M-Tec, makes metal support plates for foldable OLED panels as well as hinge-related components. In an official statement, it said that quality issues reported on some foldable phones were not caused by defects in its parts.
FineMTEC did not specifically name Apple or the iPhone Duo, although industry information has linked the company to the device’s production. It said identifying the source of a foldable-phone failure requires a detailed technical investigation because multiple components must work together, making it inappropriate to assign blame to a single part without clear evidence.

The supplier said its shipped products meet customer specifications and quality standards. It also said it is considering civil and criminal action against people who intentionally spread false information that could harm its reputation.
Apple has acknowledged the issue, saying only a limited number of devices are affected, and has directed customers experiencing the faults to AppleCare for free replacements. Whether the failures originate in the display assembly, hinge mechanism or another part of the foldable system has yet to be confirmed.
