It’s not every day that we get to see a smaller contender taking on a big brand, but today’s unboxing of the Allview X3 Soul Plus made us feel this is a solid rival for a Galaxy A or even Galaxy C model. The X3 Soul Plus is actually a Romanian integrated version of the Gionee S6 Pro, that was announced in June.

Priced at just $300, this 4 GB RAM phone positions itself as a metal phablet with solid specs. It’s bundled with a set of headphones, USB Type C cable, USB OTG cable and a metal key used to access the slots. It also has a charger in the mix, a manual and a screen protector. The display on board is a 5.5 incher Full HD unit with 2.5D panel and in cell touch technology.

We also get a fingerprint scanner integrated within the Home button and this dual SIM smartphone measures 7.6 mm in thickness, while weighing 175 grams. It also offers a metal body, made of 97% metal, according to Allview. Inside we find the octa core MediaTek Helio P10 CPU, plus 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, while at the back there’s the same 13 MP camera from the OnePlus X and Xperia XA.

This model has an 8 MP front shooter, LTE Category 6 support and a 3130 mAh battery. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with some tweaks, including a special side bar, in pure Galaxy Edge style, that includes shortcuts to a variety of apps. DTS acoustics are also here, plus a camera UI with quite a few modes to use.
