Google’s Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.1 is now rolling out to eligible Pixel devices with a focused fix for interface slowdowns and freezes that could last several seconds. The update, build CP41.260831.019, addresses a memory-management issue that became apparent when available memory was under pressure.

According to the Android Beta Program announcement, the issue could cause the system to repeatedly reclaim and reload memory pages. That behavior delayed interface responses and could temporarily freeze the device. Beta 7.1 arrived on October 16, one week after Beta 7, and its release notes list this as its sole fix.

The latest Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.1 release fixes this issue. If you don’t want to install an Android beta release, you can wait for the stable Android 17 QPR2 release.

Eligible Pixel devices

The QPR2 beta branch supports the following devices:

  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a
  • Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9a
  • Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and Pixel 10a
  • Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet

Pixel 6a remains part of the QPR2 beta program, while the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are no longer included. Enrolled devices receive the build over the air through the Android Beta Program.

Beta 7.1 retains the October 5 security patch level. Google also lists a known issue for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold: users may need to enroll their face again for Face Unlock to work properly. The freeze fix is currently limited to the beta channel, with the stable Android 17 QPR2 release still the next confirmed path for users who do not want beta software.
