Photos circulating online appear to show cracked inner displays on Apple’s newly released iPhone Duo, with damage running directly along the fold line and, in some cases, a line of failed pixels extending across the right side of the panel. The reports surfaced as the foldable reached customers, but there is no evidence yet of a broader manufacturing or design problem.
Cult of Mac collected images posted on Reddit and X, including an account from an Australian user who said their display cracked after fewer than 20 folds. The circumstances behind the reported damage have not been independently verified.
The available photos cannot establish what happened before the screens failed. It is unclear whether the devices were retail or demonstration units, whether debris entered beneath the flexible display, or whether impact, twisting or another form of physical stress was involved. Reddit community moderators reportedly asked readers to treat the initial reports as unverified.
The scrutiny is notable because Apple presented durability as a central part of the iPhone Duo’s design. The company says its hinge contains more than 100 components, while internal reinforcing ribs and ceramic-fiber inserts are intended to stiffen the frame.
A previously cited automated folding test reportedly completed thousands of cycles without a similar failure. That does not rule out a problematic batch or isolated hardware failures, but it also leaves the current images far short of proving that the iPhone Duo hinge or flexible panel has a systemic flaw.
A clearer assessment will require verified customer units, a pattern in repair claims, Apple’s response and potentially a teardown identifying whether the panel, protective layer, adhesive or display-support mechanism failed. For now, the key unanswered question is whether further independently documented cases emerge from the launch batch.
