Dyson has launched the CameraJet, a $499.99 electric toothbrush that combines sonic brushing with an onboard camera and an automated water-flossing function. The device uses a macro camera to identify spaces between teeth in real time, then activates small water jets aimed at those areas, according to Dyson.
A macro camera and strobe light built into the handle capture 28 images per second. Dyson says its software analyzes the feed as the toothbrush is used, looking for interdental gaps. When one is detected, a pump delivers roughly 0.15 ml of liquid in 0.1 seconds. Users can also run the brushing and water-cleaning functions separately.
The handle includes an approximately 20 ml water reservoir. Dyson says an expandable diaphragm helps prevent air bubbles, allowing the water jet to operate regardless of the toothbrush’s angle. The sonic motor produces 245 vibrations per second, while the brushing mechanism is designed to keep the bristles from stalling when extra pressure is applied.
CameraJet replacement heads include RFID chips that track their period of use and can send a replacement notification to a connected phone. The toothbrush connects to Dyson’s smartphone app over Wi-Fi, where users can review brushing habits and receive technique warnings. The app can also display a live video feed from inside the mouth.
The fully waterproof toothbrush uses a replaceable battery rated for about 10 days of use. Its charging dock is nearly 30 cm tall and includes its own approximately 200 ml water tank, which automatically refills the handle’s reservoir when the brush is docked.
Dyson lists the CameraJet in Ceramic Pink and Ceramic Ultra Blue. The company has not specified regional availability in the launch details provided.
