Grand Theft Auto VI’s currently listed PS5 build requires system software 14.10.00.00, according to PlayStation Store data tracked by PlayStation Game Size. That requirement would put the game beyond the range officially supported by the Relapse PS5 jailbreak, which covers firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60.

For most PS5 owners, the requirement simply means installing the latest system update before playing. It matters more to users who have deliberately remained on older firmware to preserve access to jailbreak tools: updating to run GTA 6 would move their console beyond Relapse’s stated support range.

Relapse combines a WebKit vulnerability with a kernel exploit to enable homebrew and other payloads. Its developers warn that the exploit can freeze or reboot a console, and there is no standard Sony-supported path for rolling a PS5 back to an older, vulnerable system version after an update.

  • Firmware 13.60: the latest version officially supported by Relapse.
  • Firmware 14.00: a PS5 update released on September 16 that falls outside Relapse’s support range.
  • Firmware 14.10.00.00: the version required by the GTA 6 build identified in the PlayStation Store data.

Sony has since released firmware 14.10 and recommends keeping PS5 system software current. Its support tools offer updates or reinstallation of current software, rather than an ordinary downgrade option.

There is no evidence that Rockstar Games selected firmware 14.10 specifically to target jailbreaking or piracy. A game still in development may require newer firmware because of its SDK, APIs or PlayStation services. The practical result, based on the current information, is that the listed GTA 6 build and Relapse do not overlap on the same firmware.

The requirement is not a final answer to PS5 modification efforts. Relapse is one part of a broader security-research scene, and an exploit compatible with newer firmware could alter the situation. It also remains possible that the game’s requirement changes before launch, particularly as digital distribution lets publishers update a release build closer to release.

Take-Two has reconfirmed Grand Theft Auto VI for release on November 19, 2026. Until a newer exploit emerges or the game’s firmware requirement changes, PS5 owners on 13.60 face a clear trade-off between preserving Relapse compatibility and updating for Rockstar’s next major release.
