If you’ve heard about the free Google Maps Navigation update on Android devices and you’re drooling for one, you’ll be disappointed to find out that it needs Android 1.6 to run. Apparently, UK owners of HTC Hero units are stuck with Android 1.5 and the only way to update will be offered in June, when Android 2.1 is available.

Tech Radar mentions a Google source claiming that Hero will get the Android 2.1 update this summer, at least in Europe. The info was also confirmed by HTC, but you can still get the HTC Legend model, instead of waiting. Meanwhile, Taiwan should be getting the update these days…
