Apple is preparing to enable Apple Pencil support on the iPhone Duo through iOS 27.2, with the public update scheduled for October 26. The feature will allow the foldable iPhone’s display to be used for sketching and handwritten notes shortly after the device reaches early customers.
References in the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate indicate that the stylus integration is complete. The iPhone Duo launched in September with Pencil support promised for later in the year, but the October update brings that capability earlier than some expected.
Compatibility is limited to one current Pencil model:

- Apple Pencil (USB-C): compatible with the iPhone Duo.
- Apple Pencil Pro: not recognized by the iPhone Duo display.
- First-generation Apple Pencil: not recognized by the iPhone Duo display.
The addition gives Apple’s first foldable a pen-input option for its larger unfolded workspace, alongside the multitasking focus highlighted for the device. It also arrives as Samsung has removed stylus support from its Fold8, a competing foldable with a similar passport-style form factor.
