OnePlus has detailed a new Game Assistant for the OnePlus 16 ahead of the phone’s October 12 launch in China, outlining shooter-focused features designed to improve visibility, clean up voice chat and add game-linked lighting effects. The company is positioning the software alongside a 185 Hz gaming mode that it says can run compatible titles at a native 185 fps rather than relying on frame interpolation.

The phone’s display is expected to operate at up to 165 Hz in regular system use, with the 185 Hz mode reserved for adapted games. OnePlus has not yet identified the supported titles or published detailed technical documentation for every Game Assistant feature.

Gaming software and dedicated hardware

The announced Game Assistant tools include the following:

  • Shooting Display Enhancement, an image optimization mode for shooter games
  • Game Voice Noise Reduction for reducing ambient noise during voice communication
  • Game Lighting Effects tied to gameplay
  • A OnePlus-developed Game Camera feature
  • Integration with OnePlus’ new generation of gaming optimizations

The Game Camera remains the least-defined element of the package. OnePlus has not explained how it works or what capabilities it will offer, leaving that detail for the full launch presentation.

On the hardware side, the OnePlus 16 is set to use three auxiliary chips: the P4 display chip, T3 touch chip and G3 network chip. They will work alongside a next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a system-level gaming engine. Li Jie, head of OnePlus China, previously announced the Fengchi Game Kernel and the three-chip arrangement as part of the company’s effort to reduce latency across display, touch and network functions.

Other reported OnePlus 16 specifications include:

  • 6.78-inch BOE OLED display with 1.5K resolution
  • Approximately 1.15 mm symmetrical bezels
  • 200 MP main camera
  • 50 MP ultrawide camera
  • 50 MP periscope camera with 3x optical zoom
  • 50 MP front camera
  • 9,000 mAh battery
  • 100 W wired charging
  • 50 W wireless charging
  • Ultrasonic fingerprint reader
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1
