OnePlus is reportedly testing a performance-focused phone with a built-in cooling fan and a 185Hz display, a combination that would mark a shift from the company’s current passive thermal designs. The engineering prototype has been linked by tipster Digital Chat Station to a future Ace-series Pro model, possibly the OnePlus Ace 7 Pro, though no commercial name has been confirmed.

The reported prototype uses a flat 6.78-inch 1.5K display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Its integrated fan is the standout component, intended to move heat more quickly during sustained workloads and potentially reduce thermal throttling in demanding games.

A 185Hz panel would extend beyond the 165Hz displays used by the OnePlus Ace 6 and OnePlus 15R. However, the practical benefit depends on games supporting frame rates high enough to use it and on the device maintaining that performance. In that context, active cooling could be more consequential than the 20Hz increase alone.

OnePlus has previously used substantial passive cooling systems, including a vapor chamber in the Ace 6 and the vapor chamber-and-graphene Cryo Velocity system in the OnePlus 15R. The company also experimented with fan-assisted cooling on the Ace 6 Ultra, but that solution was an attachable external accessory rather than hardware integrated into the phone.

The same report points to a 16MP front camera and a rear setup listed as 200MP plus 50MP. Sensor types, sizes and the role of the secondary rear camera remain unknown. There are also no reliable details yet on battery capacity, charging, software, launch timing or regional availability, and prototype hardware may change before any retail model is announced.
