TCL is expanding its family-focused mobile portfolio at IFA 2026 with four TAB A1 tablets in two screen sizes, the 4G-connected Kids Watch K5 and Tbot K5, a desktop AI companion concept designed to extend the watch experience at home. The tablets form the most immediate part of the announcement, while Tbot K5 has no commercial release timetable or price.
The TAB A1 range splits into 11-inch and 12.2-inch models, each offered with a conventional display or TCL’s NXTPAPER screen treatment. The 11-inch TCL TAB A1 and TAB A1 NXTPAPER use a 2.1K panel with up to a 90Hz adaptive refresh rate, a MediaTek Helio G100 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and an 8,000mAh battery with 20W charging.
The standard TAB A1 has a metal unibody chassis with IP54 protection, four speakers, a 5-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. It also supports microSD expansion up to 2TB. TCL says its Sound Booster feature can raise volume to as much as 200% of the company’s standard reference level.
The 11-inch NXTPAPER variant keeps that core hardware but adds a matte-like display system intended to reduce reflections and provide paper-inspired Color Paper and Ink Paper viewing modes alongside a standard color mode. TCL says the panel’s anti-reflection treatment brings surface reflection below 1.5%, while its micro-nano structure offers 90% light transmission and diffuses light across an 85-degree angle. Those are manufacturer figures rather than independent test results.
At the larger end, the TCL TAB A1 Plus and TAB A1 Plus NXTPAPER move to a 12.2-inch 2,400 x 1,600 display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and up to a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Both use Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset and 6GB of RAM. The regular Plus carries 128GB of storage, while the Plus NXTPAPER doubles that to 256GB; both support microSD cards of up to 2TB.
TCL lists the standard TAB A1 Plus in North America with an 8,000mAh battery and 20W charging, although regional configurations may vary. The Plus NXTPAPER is the better-equipped version, with a 10,000mAh battery, 33W charging, an approximately 6.7mm-thick body and a listed weight of about 556g for the North American model. TCL rates its display at 400 nits normally and up to 500 nits in Sunlight Display mode. It also has four speakers, two microphones and 8-megapixel cameras on the front and back; the US version runs Android 16.
The range supports TCL’s T-Pen 2, which has 4,096 pressure levels and interchangeable soft and hard nibs. TCL claims around 112 hours of use per charge, with a full USB-C recharge taking one hour. Keyboard, flip and child-focused protective cases will be offered depending on the model and market. The software package includes Google Gemini, Gemini Live and Gemini Overlay, plus TCL tools for transcription, translation, writing assistance, summaries and multitasking.
US promotional pricing listed by TCL places the TAB A1 at $189.99, the TAB A1 NXTPAPER at $249.99, the TAB A1 Plus at $219.99 and the TAB A1 Plus NXTPAPER at $299.99. These are not international prices, and bundles can differ by country. In the US, for example, the TAB A1 Plus NXTPAPER package includes the T-Pen 2 and a Flip Case.
Kids Watch K5 focuses on controlled communication and location tools
TCL’s Kids Watch K5 is aimed primarily at children aged about five to 10, prioritizing family communication and location features over the open app access of a conventional smartwatch. The 4G watch supports HD video calls, voice messages and a 2-megapixel camera, with communication restricted to approved contacts rather than open internet and social-media access.
Its “10-Layer Precise Positioning” system combines GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Wi-Fi network scanning and cellular LBS positioning with sensor data and features including Live Tracking, Safe Zone, Find Watch and SOS Camera. Parents can review location history and receive alerts when the watch leaves a designated safe zone. TCL notes that the more advanced MOVETIME MT48 remains in its portfolio with dual-band L1+L5 GPS.
School Mode can disable notifications, the camera and games during specified hours while retaining SOS access. Parents manage contacts, chat and camera permissions through a companion app, and adding another child’s watch through a shake gesture still requires parental approval. TCL claims up to 2.2 days of typical use or 4.8 days of standby time, though 4G calls, tracking and camera use will affect endurance.
The approximately 50g watch is 14.35mm thick and has an IP68 rating, but TCL says it is not intended for swimming, showers, saunas, salt water or high-pressure water. It will be available in Sky Blue, Dawn Pink and Meteor Orange. TCL also says the watch follows GDPR, ISO 27701 privacy and ISO 27001 information-security standards, and that a remote lock is available if the device is lost.
Tbot K5 remains an early AI experiment
Tbot K5 is the least defined device in the group. TCL first showed the project as Tbot at MWC Barcelona on March 3, 2026, and now presents it as a magnetic desktop companion connected to the Kids Watch experience, including when the watch is docked for charging. TCL envisions wake-up alarms, bedtime reminders, Pomodoro study timers, age-adapted educational interactions and bedtime stories, alongside configurable parental alerts.
The concept is described through roles such as AI Safeguard, Learning Partner, Smart Assistant and Sleep Companion, but TCL has not detailed final hardware, AI infrastructure, conversation-data handling, a price or an on-sale date. For now, the clearest product question from the IFA lineup is whether Tbot K5 will progress beyond that concept stage and how closely it will ultimately integrate with TCL’s kids watch.
