It’s 19 April at last, so it’s time for the official Xiaomi Mi 6 debut at last. The device became official today, sporting all the rumored features and then some. This handset is meant to compete with the LG G6, Huawei P10, Galaxy S8 and HTC U, so it comes packing. Let’s see what it brings.

Design

The device comes with a curved edge to edge screen, this time called “four sided 3D curved glass”. There’s still a metal frame here, made of stainless steel, that’s sandwiched between two gently curved glass panels. The handset is quite glossy and it’s available in white, blue, black and silver. The phone measures 7.5 mm in thickness weighs 168 grams, or 182 grams in the ceramic version.

The handset is also splash proof.

Hardware

As far as hardware goes, we’ve got a 5.15 inch Full HD screen, that’s supposed to offer 600 nits of brightness, according to Xiaomi. There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor inside, 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of storage. The Chinese maker also made public some figures and benchmark scores for the Mi 6, including the 184.292 points in AnTuTu.

This places it above the Galaxy S8, that scores around 171k. GFXBench was also unveiled, results-wise, with 63 FPS in the GPU test, which even beats the iPhone 7.

Camera

We had a lot of teasers and leaks regarding the dual camera of the Xiaomi Mi 6 and now it’s indeed real. We get a dual 12 MP camera sensor setup, with one of them sporting a wide lens, while the secondary sensor offers a telephoto lens, that offers 2X optical zoom. Xiaomi Mi 6 makes use of a Portrait mode, that uses Bokeh functionality, as well as beautification features.

OIS on 4 axis is present, as well as 4K video capture. Selfies are taken with an 8 MP and seeing how the Mi 5 performed, we have great expectations here.

Battery/Others

The flagship packs a 3350 mAh battery, with support for fast charging and it surpasses the 3000 mAh of the Galaxy S8, at least in capacity. We’ve got a system of stereo speakers here, that includes the bottom part speaker and the top part earpiece. Unlike other flagships, the handset does keep the 3.5 mm audio jack and we also get an USB Type C port.

There’s a fingerprint scanner embedded, placed below the front panel, taking the shape of a Home button.

Price/Availability

Xiaomi Mi 6 will be available in April 28th in 3 different versions, so aside from the standard ones there’s also a Ceramic Edition, similar to the case of the Xiaomi Mi MIX. This ceramic model has some gold plated components, covered with 18K gold. The 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model is priced at $360, the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB unit goes for $420 and the Ceramic Edition (6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage) is priced at $435.
