Sony has introduced the PlayStation Pulse and PlayStation Pulse Edge wireless gaming headsets, expanding its PlayStation audio lineup with planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link connectivity and Bluetooth support. Sony has not announced pricing or release dates for either model.
Both headsets use planar magnetic drivers, a technology more commonly associated with premium audio products. The design places a thin, flat diaphragm between magnets and is intended to reduce distortion, improve bass control and deliver clearer sound. Sony previously brought planar magnetic technology to PlayStation with the Pulse Elite headset, released in 2024 following the company’s acquisition of audio specialist Audeze.
For gaming, Sony says the drivers are designed to provide more accurate positional audio, helping players distinguish the direction of footsteps and gunfire. PlayStation Link supplies low-latency wireless audio and fast switching between compatible platforms, while Bluetooth is available for phones, tablets and other devices.
PlayStation Link can switch quickly between:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation Portal
- PC
- Mac
Sony also includes AI-assisted background-noise filtering microphones on both models for voice chat, with the feature intended to reduce interference from sounds such as a TV, fan or mechanical keyboard.
Pulse Edge is positioned as the more fully equipped option. Its key additions include:
- Twice as many magnets as the standard Pulse model, a configuration Sony says should enable deeper bass and better low-frequency control.
- Active noise cancellation.
- A detachable boom microphone, intended to provide clearer voice pickup than the standard model’s integrated microphone arrangement.
Sony has yet to confirm how the two headsets will be priced or when they will reach markets. Pulse Elite currently carries an official US price of $149, providing an early reference point for where the new products may sit in the PlayStation audio range.
