Huawei is reportedly testing camera improvements for its next nova 17 phones, spanning both the rear camera array and the front-facing shooter. The rumored changes include an upgraded 200MP main camera, but there is no indication yet of the sensor Huawei may use or the imaging-processing changes that could accompany it.

Tipster SmartPikachu also claims the lineup will use different display sizes, with a smaller panel possible for the standard model and larger screens retained for higher-end versions. That would give Huawei another way to distinguish nova 17 variants beyond their camera hardware.

  • An upgraded 200MP main rear camera.
  • Changes to the selfie camera and multispectral color sensor, which is intended to improve color reproduction.
  • New AI-powered photo-editing tools.

A 200MP camera would not be new to the nova family. The nova 16 Pro and nova 16 Ultra already use 200MP main cameras alongside 50MP ultrawide and 50MP telephoto cameras, with optical image stabilization and 3.7x optical zoom. Reports suggesting a connection between the nova 17 camera and the Mate 90 series remain speculative.

It is also unclear whether the rumored imaging and AI features will extend across the entire nova 17 range or be reserved for higher-priced models. Huawei has not announced the nova 17 series or confirmed its launch markets.
