Apple has unveiled 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that add touchscreen input to the company’s professional notebook range. The new laptops pair touch-enabled PROLED XDR tandem OLED displays with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, while also introducing Dynamic Island to the MacBook Pro.
The integrated touch sensor is built into the display panel rather than added as a separate layer, a design Apple says reduces latency. It supports gestures including pinch-to-zoom, direct manipulation of items between windows and touch controls in apps. Logic Pro can use the panel for virtual instruments, while Final Cut Pro supports gesture-based clip manipulation. Apple has also redesigned the hinge for greater stability during touch input; the keyboard and trackpad remain available alongside it.

The PROLED XDR panel uses two layers of self-emissive OLED pixels. Apple specifies a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content. The 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch panels support adaptive ProMotion refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, and more than 80% of Rec. 2020. An anti-reflective coating is included, with a nano-texture option available.
Dynamic Island occupies the top of the display and can show live activities, media controls and notifications. Apple says it also integrates with Spotlight and the new Siri AI, although functionality relying on AI services will depend on their availability.

M5 Pro and M5 Max hardware
M5 Pro and M5 Max target demanding workloads including 8K video editing, 3D rendering, software development and local AI models. Both chips feature upgraded GPU shader cores, third-generation ray tracing, a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core and Dynamic Caching for memory management. Apple also says the thermal system has been redesigned to sustain performance in a thinner enclosure.

Apple lists the 14-inch model at about 1.36kg and the 16-inch version at about 1.81kg. They are respectively around 227g and 318g lighter than their predecessors, according to the company, while thickness is reduced by about 0.5mm on the smaller model and nearly 1mm on the larger one.
The company rates battery life at up to 24 hours, depending on configuration and use, and says fast charging can reach 50% in around 30 minutes. Other changes include a six-speaker system with redesigned woofers, new tweeters, Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos and studio-quality microphones. Audio has also been optimized for closed-lid use with an external monitor.
macOS 27 Golden Gate brings Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI, including interaction with information on screen. Apple also cites creative-app optimizations, display calibration reference modes and genlock support for video-production workflows.
