Apple executive John Ternus has posted a short teaser on X ahead of an expected MacBook Pro announcement, fueling reports that Apple is preparing its first touchscreen laptops. The video shows an Apple logo projected on a dark wall against a nighttime city backdrop.
Apple is scheduled to host journalists and content creators at a Los Angeles event called “Pro and tell” on October 28. The gathering could provide the first hands-on opportunity with the new MacBook Pro range, although Apple has not confirmed the rumored touchscreen models or their specifications.
Rumored hardware changes
Reports point to redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro versions, each with an OLED panel. The switch could bring higher contrast, richer colors and increased peak brightness compared with existing display technology.
- Touch controls are expected to be added without removing the physical keyboard or trackpad.
- A stiffer hinge is rumored to reduce display movement while the screen is touched.
- Apple may revise cooling to improve airflow around the hinge area.
- The redesign could include slimmer bezels, a thinner and lighter chassis, and a Dynamic Island in place of the current display notch.
- M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are expected, while macOS Golden Gate is rumored to add touch-focused optimizations and controls.
Pricing remains unconfirmed. Rumors suggest the 14-inch model could start at US$2,899, while the 16-inch version may begin at US$3,399 or higher.
The Los Angeles event could also give attendees time with products said to have been introduced earlier in the week:
- An OLED-equipped iPad mini.
- An iMac powered by an M6 processor.
- A 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by an M6 processor.
Whether Apple confirms touch input, OLED panels and the reported M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations is expected to become clear at the October 28 event.
