Apple’s first touch-enabled OLED MacBook Pro could also bring a meaningful reduction in weight, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The redesign is reportedly being considered for an unveiling as soon as next month, though Apple has not confirmed the product or its timing.

Significantly lighter.

The report does not provide a target weight. Apple is said to have miniaturized selected components and rearranged hardware inside the chassis to make the machine easier to carry, while retaining the performance-oriented character of the MacBook Pro line.

That would be a notable shift for the higher-end configurations, whose cooling systems and more powerful hardware add mass. The reported design is also expected to pair its OLED touchscreen with an area resembling the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, although details of how that element would work on macOS remain unclear.

  • The current 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max weighs about 1.6 kg.
  • The 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs about 2.13 kg.
  • The 2026 MacBook Air weighs about 1.2 kg.
  • MacBook Neo is also listed at about 1.2 kg.

The central unanswered question is how far Apple can reduce weight without compromising thermal performance, battery life, or chassis rigidity. A launch next month remains a report rather than a confirmed Apple event.
