Huawei has confirmed that the Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone will reach markets outside China through a gradual rollout. Speaking to international media on September 29, Huawei executive Richard Yu highlighted interest from customers in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, while Europe remains under consideration.
The company is positioning the device around its dual-folding form factor and software tailored to the larger flexible display. Yu also pointed to hardware-level visual protection in the screen, designed to reduce the visibility of on-screen content from side angles.
Huawei has also refined the Mate XT 2's hinge and foldable-panel design. Its precision waterdrop-style mechanism is intended to let the phone close without a gap between its sections, an important design consideration for a handset with two folding areas.
According to Yu, Huawei had shipped nearly 100,000 Mate XT 2 units by the September 29 media meeting and expects sales to exceed 1 million units. He said demand is currently outstripping supply, driven by the device format and its software experience.
Huawei has yet to identify launch countries, release dates or pricing outside China, and it has not said whether the international model will differ from the Chinese version. Those details will determine how broadly the Mate XT 2 can compete in the still-small tri-fold smartphone category.
